For some reason, eventhough they technically may be your competitors, they're trying to help you out.

*Friendly competition is what keeps this industry going! A lot of publishers producing quality product keeps people interested in the game, and insures a wide variety of styles to make consumers happy. And when dealing with a shrinking niche market to begin with, keeping existing gamers gaming is of value to everyone.

*It's good karma. Many of us wouldn't be in the industry right now if someone else didn't help us out in the beginning. It's repaying a cosmic debt.

*We're all gamers too, and therefore often buy as many products as we produce. I don't want to buy crap any more than a non-publisher gamer!

I have definately found the above to be true; I just put out a press release on the other board and several of the replies wishing me luck are from "the competition". I have hired a good half a dozen writers from this post, and thus far I am very pleased with the work they have turned in. Our first short product done by a freelancer is here:

The press release thread is here (with some very nice comments by potential customers/the competition):

And my company website is now up at:
www.skortchedurfstudios.com

Thanks again for the help, encouraging comments and advice!
