Same reason why a dragon that swallows a pair of bracers won't suddenly gain the AC bonus.

But the Gelatinous Cube Monk could have ioun stones... :)

Having played a gelatinous cube (half-celestial, with cleric levels), the way we rules it was basically the cube had no body slots. Things inside the cube itself could be considered held. So slotless magic items (that wouldn't be digested) could be used, but anything that required an item space just wasn't made with the requirements of a block of jelly in mind. :)

Feat... sense... tingling!

Shape Pseudopod (Monstrous)
Prerequisite: ooze type, Int 3.
Benefit: As a full-round action, you can grow a psudopod that functions as a body slot for magic item purposes (chosen when you take this feat).
Special: You can take this feat more than once. Each time you take this feat, you must choose a new body slot to mimic. You can chose arm, forearm, foot, finger and hand twice each.
