To me EN5ider is a great place to publish stuff (I've got an article up there!). Not only do they handle the layout and art, but James will work hard with you to get your work polished up and edited to get into the magazine regardless of how long it takes. My Heroes of the Blade became a much better article once I finished working on it with James and it would have greatly suffered for not going through that editing process had I just stuck it onto DM's Guild. However DM's Guild is a great avenue if you want to genuinely play with FR lore (rather than posting mostly mechanics with a token FR reference). You do miss out on the editing process (unless you find someone to do it with you), but there's no other opportunity to publicly publish FR related material. I'm definitely a big fan of James and EN5ider. I couldn't disagree more here. My Trailseeker articles (works exactly the same as EN5ider but for Pathfinder) had material cut out due to space limitations. I could happily publish the same articles with the removed content, and combine it with some other unpublished work, and then post it up on DriveThruRPG if I so desired. Neither Trailseeker nor EN5ider (as far as I know. Definitely correct me Morrus if this is wrong) doesn't have a POD method of obtaining the articles. Combining the articles (getting professional artwork and layout on it) and then putting it up on a site like Amazon is a value-add for fans and content creators as it lets you target audiences who use physical material only. Moonsong's Noble class is something I really like. I'd love to be able to work with Moonsong to perhaps tweak it after receiving 12 months of feedback, get some new subclasses, maneuvers and feats designed for it and then publish it in a new product for those fans who want it (dunno how well it was received by the community at large, but I absolutely love it and it's legal in all my games I DM). It could even get a Pathfinder version created and get it posted up on the Paizo site to target a wider audience. Heck you could do a Swords & Wizardry version or an ACKs version if it was thought it would appeal to that audience. 99% of content creators may not reuse their content, and that's okay. It's great for the 1% that they can do something with it. Also when 6th edition hits the stores (and we all know it will at some point unless D&D gets closed down) all EN5ider content can be converted by their creators and then rereleased without needing to get approval from EN Publishing. There is definite value in that IMO. I do see the retain ownership aspect as a bit of icing on the cake. Take a look at other publishers who do pay by the word and you'll see that En5ider and Trailseeker's rates are quite comparable (if not better) to those publishers who are likely to take on new game designers. The retaining ownership is just that little something extra EN5ider and Trailseeker offer.
