She was a bit surprised to see that he pretty much looked like a younger Take, appearing to be in his late twenties. He was about Take’s height, but bulkier than the rail Take is and did not wear glasses. She made a note of his name to mention to Take later.

They talked over dinner. Asta found out that when Diane had dropped off the radar after graduation it had been because she had joined the Independent army. Diane had been a doctor and Phil had been an enlisted soldier. They didn’t seem to have heard anything about Asta defecting in the war, so she kept her mouth shut. She did mention that a lot of people thought she was dead and wanted to keep it that way. This surprised Diane, but she went along with it. She swapped war stories with them with Asta’s being more interesting. When the topic came around to how Diane had gotten sick she clammed up a little. She told Asta that it was related to when she met a notorious villain. Phil visibly clenched up when she started to tell this story. She said at the time she had been stationed on the Knight along with Phil. They were taking part in an acquisition run with the Cassandra , the Lincoln, and the Decoy. A young Lance Corporal named Mortimer Perdita had been the mastermind behind the mission. He fancied himself a genius mechanic and came around to check over all of the ships to make sure they were operating at peak performance. She described a guy that looked a lot like a younger Mort, right down to the cigar. From what she knew of the plan, the Lincoln and the Decoy picked up majority of the parts and supplies procured from the Alliance shipyard whole the Knight and the Cassandra were the armed escorts.

They were being pursued by the Alliance but they were doing fine until they hit Hayden’s Bay. About that time the Knight lost power. She didn’t know it at the time, but she had since been told that there was something wrong with the engines. She was told they tried to relay this, but their transmission was scrambled. She watched out a porthole as the Cassandra also lost power and banked hard to port, kamikaziing into Alliance patrol boat, destroying them both. Then the Knight sideswiped another Alliance patrol boat. There was an explosion on board and she was knocked out. Phil filled in that the Lincoln and the Decoy had no such engine problems and were able to escape in the confusion. He then said that the explosion on the Knight had been a radiation leak. It affected a number of the crew along with a lot of the Alliance boarders, killing a few of each. Those of their crew that survived were all taken prisoner and interrogated. They were put in a prisoner of war camp for the rest of the war. Those that were subjected to the radiation and survived received such a large dose that they needed regular treatment, which the Alliance provided. After the war they were pardoned with the rest of the prisoners and allowed to go back to their lives. However, those exposed to the radiation needed to stay near to where they could continue to receive treatment, which meant Diane was forced to remain in the Core. This didn’t work out too terribly for Diane, since she had a pliable trade in the Core, but it did mean she would not be able to travel. Still, she was thankful she was alive.

Asta noticed that Phil did a poor job of containing his anger about what had happened so she tried to change the subject to something nicer.

-------

Crew travelled straight to the shipyard, which took more than a few days, but less than a month. During this time, Asta brought up what she had learned to Campan, Ezmerelda, and Jenny. Campan didn't seem to like what he heard as several things dawned on him. Asta and Ezmerelda then started hatching a plan to get rid of Mort, leaving Campan to ponder.

The Shipyard was a starbase out near the Rim that had drydock facilities, run by a guy called Leroy. Ezmerelda knew him as a guy who had good jobs, if you could get past the leering eyes and grabby hands.

Being ferried over on the Korv, everyone but Take and Mort disembarked. Take set himself up on the bridge with his blanket and dinosaurs while Mort set about fixing/upgrading the ship (and installing new booby traps).

Daniel and Campan headed for the bar and settled in. Daniel sent Ezmerelda to go talk to Leroy for them. Asta and Jenny tagged along. Conversation was mostly Leroy catching up with Ezmerelda and making lewd comments. He asked how long they were going to be in port and said she should come talk to him when they were done, since he might have some work for them. She said they were laying low for a while, so they'd be looking for low profile work. He also suggested that working for him again would be lucrative and easier. She deflected all of his advances gracefully.

The next couple of days felt like the calm before the storm. Campan found out that Phil Take had followed them to the station; someone had tipped him off that Mortimer Perdita was there. Campan had a long chat with Phil. During this chat, he never let on that he knew Mort, but asked a lot of questions about Hayden’s Bay.

Daniel noticed the resemblance to Take, but ignored that for later. He took the time to have a chat with Campan about his problems with Mort and told him to drop them. Campan talked about his older sister, Betsy. He told Daniel that he had followed her everywhere, even into war. He said out that he had a browncoat, just like Daniel's, he just didn't wear it anymore. He said he just hadn't given a damn since the Skirmish of Hayden's Bay. He laid out for Daniel that Mort was the cause of his sister's death and he knew that their problems would never be resolved so long as they were on the same ship, especially with Take as Captain. Daniel told Campan that he was making plans to leave the ship very soon, so he wouldn't have his protection from Take and Mort anymore. Campan said he'd go collect his things. Daniel told him he would have to contact Take about doing so, since he could not use the Korv. Daniel wandered off in search of Ezmerleda and Asta, only half noticing Campan meeting up with Phil again.

Daniel found Ezmerelda alone and talked at her for a short while. He found out from her that she had tipped Phil off about Mort because he was clearly a danger to the crew. He now knew that Mort was in great danger and he needed to warn Take immediately, This fact did not stop him from giving Ezmerelda a very harsh talking down to, though. He spoke of how he had obviously been wrong about her and that she was useless and what a disappointment she was. His lengthy dressing down left Ezmerelda seething with rage. After he was finished, he added an afterthought.

Daniel (complete lack of emotion): Oh, and I am your father.

Daniel then quickly wandered off to radio Take as he hurried for the Korv.

Not having access to his own transportation and not bothering to try and get Take to do something for him, Campan bummed a ride on Phil's ship. Phil had borrowed an experimental attack vessel from the docks he worked at. It was very cramped with two people, but they managed. They shot over to the Orasca and docked in the Korv's usual shuttle berth.

Meanwhile, Daniel radioed Take, letting him know that some guy named Phil who looked like him was on his way over with Campan and was looking for Mort's blood. Take said that that was his younger brother, though he had no idea why he wanted to kill Mort. He then told Take that he would see about heading over to help out.

Onboard the Orasca, Take radioed Mort to let him know someone had just docked who was looking to kill him and Campan was with him. Mort said that was a damn shame and it looked like it was time for him to go. Mort stopped his work right there and quickly picked up his tools.

Take headed down from the bridge to the cargobay to delay Campan and Phil. The later quickly started ranting and raving at his older brother while Campan just stood aside. Take delayed Phil by being completely nonapologetic about the situation and not really caring what his brother had to say. When Take refused to say where Mort was, Phil started moving about the ship, heading towards the engine room.

While they took the route through the upper deck, Mort moved along the lower deck to the cargobay. Mort got to the cargobay and headed for the shuttle, until he remembered that it was half torn apart from repairs and upgrades (Plot Twist). Doing a quick about face, he headed over to Phil's ship instead.

Outside, Daniel had finally made it to the Orasca with the Korv. Since he found there were no empty berths for him to dock at, he simple hovered out there and waited.

Phil heard the door to his ship close and hurried back to the cargobay. By then the door had already been locked. Mort found the ship to be very shiny, but it had an intricate computer lockdown. As Phil tried to force the door back open, Mort set about trying to hotwire/hack the ship so he could take off. Somehow, he managed to do it (Drama Point and one hell of a roll). He decoupled and and headed off in a random direction.

Daniel radioed him and told him he was sorry things had unfolded this way. He told Mort that he was leaving the ship shortly as well and he harbored no ill feelings towards him. He then told Mort he'd keep Take's brother busy, should he try to follow.

With his query escaped, Phil demaned Take give him the shuttle to pursue. Take refused and said he wasn't going to help him. How that ended up being resolved wasn't covered, but Phil wasn't going to shoot his brother, so Take survived.

Daniel told Take that he had previously packed the Korv and was now going to head out. he wished Take the best of luck and said he was sorry events turned out this way.

Take immediately fired Campan. Take told Jenny she was fired; not that that mattered since she didn't work for him. Take refused to allow them to board to collect their things. [QUOTE="Ao the Overkitty, post: 4698693, member: 9758"] Yeah, I finally got around to writing something up. It has only been over 27 months. I added at the end what I know of what happened to the characters. I'm sure my players have all died of shock when this showed up in their Inboxes. [b][i]*Note: Events are heavily condensed, since I'm doing this from memory and it has been over two years. Events may be taken out of sequence, but the general gist of what happened is there.
