Y'know, I would agree with that very often. However, in this specific discussion, a claim was made, someone else inquired, and the initial claimant re-iterated the claim. Asking someone in an internet discussion to back up a quantifiable claim (that they specifically chose to make, apropos of only the most tangentially related question--whether D&D was well-managed during the WotC era, including 4e/Spellplague) is in no way unreasonable. This is not people kicking 4e, it is [presumably a 4e aficionado] very deliberately bringing it up in support of a point (barely under contention) and making a claim and then being surprised that people might need them to back up said claim. Honestly I have no idea why we're even still discussing it. This is about Dave A, not individual editions of D&D. All this does is attempt to provide tangential supporting evidence to a microcosm (4e sales) of the larger question of the 4e-era D&D brand being well-run (of which sales is only a small component) which is a miniscule component of the larger question of D&D brand being well managed during the WotC era, which iteself was a side question asked offhand by Henadic Theologian. We are chasing our tails towards no end.
