go systemless

On the Jagged Edge website is the question: "Do we re-create Umbragia and Aetasidus and the like and make them fully d20 compatable? Do we create them as systemless settings (perhaps using a prose-like descriptive system like FUDGE, CITYBOOK, or PDQ to describe elements of the characters and the like? We don't know."

I think you should go systemless. I really like Umbragia's races and setting. Umbragia isn't merely "Standard Fantasy World with Dwarves and Elves #357". It is unique in the same way Talislanta and Tekumel are unique. I see no reason to muck it up with rules. Clear all that away and let the wonder of Umbragia stand forth unobscured by systems and rules.

A good example of an in-print systemless book is the World Book of Khaas: Legendary Lands of Arduin.
