Charles spent several months in Cuba during the Spanish-American War working as a translator. Charles retired from the military, and used meager amount his father left him to open a small antique store in New York City. In the intervening years he has acquired a reputation as a knowledgeable historian and antiquarian. He store, while not earning him a fortune, has done well.
