Entering the Mortuary Toranna seems a little disappointed at the decision... And more than a little unnerved at the concept of a Modron laughing. "Very well." She says to you before turning to one of the other Dustmen, speaking softly to him before he disappears into the large domed structure. "Stick with me, I will make sure that we stay away from the catacombs and have sent a Namer ahead of us to be sure that we don't run into anything to unsettling for you." Toranna leads you into the Mortuary, through the great double doors into a softly lit, impressive chamber featuring tall vaulted ceilings and a black marble floor so polished and clean that you can see your reflection in it clearly. The walls are decorated with dark geometric carvings, the air is warm and smells faintly of herbs. There are 5 other Dustmen in the room, one seems to instinctively start to approach you and then stops, nods and smiles warmly, then goes back about his business. Toranna: "Welcome to the Mortuary, this is our Great Hall, a place for funerals to celebrate a loved one who has moved on to final death. This way please." Toranna motions to her left and leads you into a much smaller chamber. This room is paved with dark flagstones and roofed with heavy stone vaults. Blank doorways carved in stone line the walls. Empty torch sconces and black wall hangings indicate that this room may be used for ceremonies from time to time. The ceiling is so low that Leau forced to use caution to avoid hitting his head. In the center of the chamber is a blank stone slab suspended by chains from the ceiling, allowing it to be faced toward any direction and moved around the room. Toranna opens a door and walks into a spiral stairwell and you all start to climb. You aren't positive how high you go (Except for Lex who likely counts the steps) but judging by the landings when you stop at a door you are on what would be the 3rd floor. "This is not normally a public area" Toranna warns. As the door opens the stench of rotting flesh hits your nose. Entering this room you see it is one expansive chamber, divided by the vaulting that supports the roof. Narrow galleries run around the perimeter of the room, with dark portals gaping. Chains suspended from the ceiling support a number of iron platforms similar to those in the chambers below. Several sheet-draped bodies await interment, and several zombies shamble across a blood stained floor, moving the bodies or greasing the chain tracks mindlessly. From one corner a brilliant reddish light dances beneath the roof catching your attention. Two Dustmen are standing before a portal filled with raging flame. They seem to be sliding a body through the flaming portal. You watch as the body disappears into the flaming void the cold air rippling above and a warm breeze taking the chill out of the room momentarily. The Zombies are a disturbing sight. They have numbers on their heads and are in various stages of rot, one you guess to be older has only it's bones left on one arm which seems to have been repaired at some point with leather strapping and another is completely unphased by the fly crawling around on it's eyeball. "Here we are." Toranna says flatly.
