Gus was the most adventurous and least lumbering of the lot, easily the smartest, and nearly intelligent enough to equal or best any trained animal. He might even work completely independently, were it not for his hobbit-like attention span. He had an amazing nose, but often not much of a sense of direction, finding himself in sometimes troubling and other times funny (and sometimes both at the same time) situations. Gus had found his way into the armory and was sniffing around a suit of dwarven plate armor, held in place on a suit rack awaiting the masterwork bluing. Gus had knocked it over and found himself with the chest piece wedged on to his head like a helmet. He had panicked in the moment and run headfirst into Vale, who helped him remove the chest piece and was promptly licked and tackled by the grateful Gus. It was love at first sight. Gus was more than simply a pet to Vale, and Vale had been uncomfortable both leaving him in Dyvers or taking him to Skorane. Protecting Vega accommodated both.
