Nah, the focus isn't on monsters, Aegeri's focus is on monsters. :P The book basically feels like one of the old Planescape splats, in lots of good ways, and not just in that Gloomwrought feels like Shadow Sigil. It shares a LOT of the same features of design: random quotes, cartoony map art, factions, scattered magic items and materials (that pro-necrotic damage stuff reminds me of Green Steel). It's a solid book. The box physical (non-art) design is terrible and tacky - it's flimsy and basically just exists to make you think you're buying something HYUGE, like those boxes PC Games used to come in in the 90s. The two-sided map is kind of ruined by pasting maps ON TOP OF other maps on the one side with actual battle-friendly maps. But the BOOK is just a gem so far. -- The book makes me feel almost guilty, really. DMs seem to be getting much better material than players lately, and I feel sorry for those who only get that side of the equation. :(
