Kaijia takes his own bow from his back and nocks an arrow. He then looks towards the left, while remaining as hidden as possible, trying to see what or who the man might be hiding from. If a minute or so passes by, then Kaijia will start moving towards the fight again to see if he can see what's going on there, but he'll keep this man in mind; he's intrigued as to what he's doing there.

Tharl moves very slowly, trying to remain as quiet as possible, and starts to close the gap to Kaijia. He doesn't want to be too far away should combat begin.

OOC:
40 yards is about spotting distance. Kaijia, you readied your longbow when you started. You've been carrying it.

IC:
Kaijia settles against a tree and watches. It soon becomes obvious that the man is a lookout for whoever is up ahead. Occasionally his eyes sweep over in your direction but he makes no sign of having seen you. As you watch, you notice him also look back Did he just gesture? (to your 10 o'clockish). Could there be another person? You can't see anyone but your pretty sure. You watch for another 30 seconds but he doesn't do anything similar.

Tharl moves up slowly behind Kaijia until you are about 6-7 yards back. From here you can jump in to assist Kaijia if needed, but at the moment cannot see anything. Chen maintains his distance 5 yards behind Tharl for the moment.

Time passes. A minute. No, not that long. Your heart is beating faster than normal. Its hard to tell. Half a minute, no more, surely?

Kaijia: With a start, the man up ahead swings around and drawing his bow, looses an arrow at you. You feel rather than see it pass to your right. Not at you? There is a solid thud and a gasp from behind. Tharl! Looking back you see the sunlight glinting off his shield. The man up ahead is scrambling to move behind the tree he was so recently crouching against.

Tharl: With a solid thud, and arrow embeds itself in a tree a little of to your right. Up ahead you see movement. A man. Practically invisible before. He is now moving.

Tharl prays to the power of Strength and War, imploring it to infuse a small portion of it's beneficence and power into the Tharl, Kaijia and Chen's prowess in battle. (OOC: Cast bless)

After he receives the blessing, Tharl ready to draw his sword and close to the nearest opponent, shouting "Hold. Why do you attack us?"

(OOC: There's a few actions/rounds there. Play them out as you see fit)

Chen, a few yards behind Tharl, hears the arrow hit the tree. He moves up closer to the priest, if only to get a better view of their assailant, when he feels a soft jolt of power flow through him. He shrugs it off, unsure of what it even is, and holds back 1 yard from Tharl, weapon at the ready.

The three of you feel a soft surge of power, a tingling in your fingertips.

From up ahead, there comes a bird like whistle. Bird like. Obviously whoever is up ahead has friends somewhere nearby. Then another from off to the left.

Tharl, now hunched behind his shield, sword in hand* shouts.

"Hold. Why do you attack us?"

From up ahead and behind the tree comes the reply. You can see the top of his bow, a little of his shoulder if you know where to look.

"Whoever you are, there is nothing here to interest you! Not now. Not here. Be on your way in peace."

Chen closes the distance between himself and Tharl. But, unsure about from where exactly the arrow came, he cannot see anybody.

OOC: *Sam, Tharl had his shield and sword readied earlier (see Posted by Sam - 09-05-2003 at 12:18 PM)
OOC: The man is some 40 yards (120 ft) ahead: 6 rounds std mv, 3 rounds double move, 2 round runx3 (a bit more if you allow for terrain) Spotting distance is about 40 yards also. Sam, not sure what your priorities are here. Talk or close (move & hide/keep cover, or charge in?), or both? I don't want to presume here.

Over to you guys.
