[QUOTE="Tav_Behemoth, post: 4992223, member: 18017"] That's an interesting exercise, and it's commendable that you've taken up the challenge. However, I think it's not a trivial difference that your version takes up 2,628 words, while the similar section you quote from the original is 353 words. I'm not saying that you couldn't boil your advice down to one-eighth its current size, or that the result might not still yield a better guide to making effective warlords. What I am saying is that the original comparison between the Essentials articles and the CharOps guides was apples vs. oranges. You say that you're going to show how you can create a better apple, but since what you've produced is an orange I think you're missing the distinction. The Essentials series is intended to be friendly to a general audience, some of whom will be beginners, others of whom will be relatively casual players. Three hundred words of advice is appropriate for that audience (and for Dragon's publishing format). Those kinds of players are likely to be scared off by two and a half thousand words of advice. They have different requirements than the expert-level players who are going to be ready for a CharOps guide. If you're going to evaluate whether the fruit that's being provided for them is healthy and nutritious you have to understand that they're specifically looking for apples, because saying that the Essentials articles lack a hard, inedible rind and internal segments weakens your arguments. I like that your version has links to other resources for building a warlord, because, being for a general audience, some of the people reading an Essentials article will be the kinds of highly invested expert-level players who would follow up on those leads. I think it'd be awesome if your version and the published articles had links to the relevant CharOps guides, so that folks who want the orange know where to go to find it (and to check out other perspectives as well).
