[QUOTE="Umarth, post: 351462, member: 7235"] Werewolves and zelots Our ever so clever friend DJ (the thief from the last story) made up a new character a Paladin (well...1 lvl of paladin 4 lvls of fighter. The Paladin is alternantly refered to as.. The dumb Paladin and the zelot. Turon tells of the first few days after our heros reached Angrenost. "We had been in town for several days. Our king was giving a speech about how we must take the battle to the orcs when i noticed a group of ravens staring at the gathered crowd with what could be considered MALICIOUS INTENT! periodicly through out the king's speech a raven would fly off in different directions. towards the end of the speech three riders approached the town, they looked like one of the city's scouting groups. they went inside the gates and reported to their commander. later that night while we were enjoying ourselves in a tavern, celebrating our recent promotions to the rank of Captain, the three scouts approached us. They had obviously be in a dire battle, and one of them appeared to be ready to drop from his wounds. they came to talk to us because they had heard of our exploits and that we had the ear of the king. They had been scouting along the border of the southern forest, where the werewolves live. they were attacked by a pack of the foul creatures lead by a Vampire. They were able to escape with their lives, but only barely. during the course of their scouting mission they had uncovered a potential alliance between the Orcs and the Werewolves, surrounded as our county is by these two nations of EVIL it would be a horrible thing to happen. We begged the king to let us go investigate immediately. He had misgiving about our plan, and did not beleive that the Werewolves were a threat. In the end the king let us leave with the promise that we would return as soon as possible to the city to march with him and the rest of the army to go to war against the orcs. " ********* It is perhaps best to look first at Kiernans retelling of the bands adventures in the dark forests of the werewolves. ********* "I have finally had the chance to study a werewolf. Several scouts reported that the werewolves were allying with the orcs, and were likely to strike against us in the war. If that were so, it would be devastating, if they struck Angrenost with the army pressing the Orcish Horde. Turon, The General and I set out to investigate the threat after conversations with Brandir and Arani showed us that they would not be slowed. The zealot followed as well, interested in adventure, it seems. Orc tracks on the border suggested an alliance, and we tracked farther in. We were rewarded with a glimpse of an actual werewolf, creeping through the bushes on its belly. The zealot had made much of his skill with the lance and horse, so we sent him ahead. And I learned something new. Werewolves travel in groups, and wield weapons as a man. The zealot's horse, poor beast, fell quickly to a werewolf hiding in the bushes. The zealot faired little better. The sight of the two beasts, standing over the slain horse and the zealot boiled my blood, and despite the considerations of others, we advanced on the werewolves. I learned quite a lot about these creatures, finally getting a chance to match them in a fair combat. They are intelligent - highly so. And strong. Their hides seemed to shake off our blows, and even Turon's mighty strikes seemed less effective. In the end, he and the general downed one werewolf as the second one and I traded blows for a time - his skills at the blade were not as good as mine, but he was able to block all my attempts to penetrate his defense. I was able to bandage Turon's wounds and keep him from dying. We were forced to flee, as half our party was out of action. I feel better knowing more about those foul creatures. I wish that we could have learned more about their plans, but the orc prints on the border suggest at least an attempt at an alliance. The rulers will do with that what they may. " ******* Clinical and acurate yet lacking that flair we can find in Turons account. ******* "Our valerous party rode hard to investigate the rumored non-human alliance. when we reached the forest we began searching through it. We chanced upon a werewolf, slinking away in the brush, we stealthy followed, after the not too bright paladin decided it was alone, he decided to attack it. he charged it with his lance readied, only to have his horse cut down from under him by the giant werewolf hiding in the bushes ready to ambush us. at that point the battle was joined and our group of intreped adventurers put up a good fight, my muscles rippled with the rage of my barbarous talents as i hacked at the beasts long after i should have dropped from my wounds. But alas, he was deeply wounded by the beast's giant great-axe and soon succomed to his injuries. with the help of my party members (minus the idiot paladin who was close to death and lying in a pool of his own blood) i was able to hack the two werewolves to pieces. Soon after they were dead i slumped into unconsiousness. i awoke sometime later to find my wounds had been tended to by kiernan and we were on our way out of the forest. along the way we did indeed find orc tracks leading into the forest but we were too weak to follow them. soon we started noticeing more of the mainevolent ravens apparently scouting the border of the forest. we quickly hid from them, but the dimwitted paladin forgot to realize he was wearing lots of shiney armor. one of evil black birds saw us and quickly wheeled around to fly into the forest. bot kiernan and i switfly fired arrows after it. i am unsure of which arrow hit its mark, but i do know that the raven was shot from the sky. We quickly made our way back to the city to report all that we had seen to the king. hopefully he will not be so foolish as to leave a potential army at our backs while we attempt to eradicate the orc menace once and for all.
