MIDNIGHT AT MILWOOD MORGUE A PBP adventure for Dark*Matter [D20 Modern] The town of Milwood, England, is like any long-forgotten post-Industrial backwater: empty streets, ancient buildings, rusted cars, rotting asphalt. The people here stare blankly at strangers, their faces drawn and hollow. Easy to write off the despair of this town as symptomatic of Northern England’s crumbling economy. But is that the real reason? I’m recruiting 3-4 players for Midnight at Milwood Morgue, a short adventure I designed for the Dark*Matter: Shades of Grey campaign setting for D20 Modern. Be warned, however, that my vision of Dark*Matter is weirder and higher-powered than the traditional setting. Think Delta Green + Resident Evil + Silent Hill. Details are as follows: 1. Posting frequency every 1-2 days. 2. Characters will be 1st level. By the end of the adventure they will be level 2-3 and will be recruited into the Hoffman Institute. 3. The only book you will need to play is the D20 Modern core rulebook (or the D20 Modern SRD, downloadable from Wizards of the Coast). Players do not need to be familiar with the Dark*Matter setting, but they SHOULD be familiar with D20 Modern. 4. Attributes: use standard 32 point buy (see page 15 of D20 Modern core book). 5. Advanced classes can be any from Chapter 6 of the D20 Modern core book, plus the Occultist and the Telepath (Wild Talent feat is an acceptable starting feat), plus the Advanced classes from Dark Matter: Shades of Grey. Nothing from Urban Arcana. 6. Characters will meet in a tavern in Milwood. That’s right—the characters will actually meet in a tavern. Think of it as a homage to the good old days of AD&D. :p They don’t have to be on vacation; any reason you can think of for them to be in England is acceptable. You’ll need to think of a reason for your character being in a crummy little town 80 km northwest of Manchester, England. (Just in case anyone’s wondering, Milwood is not a real town.) 7. Starting occupations can be any from the D20 Modern core book. 8. I will be using Wealth and Reputation bonuses as usual, but for starting possessions don’t bother with wealth checks; just equip your character with whatever you think they would reasonably have with them for a trip to England. No firearms or explosives or body armor, sorry. :p I reserve the right to veto any obvious abuses for starting equipment, though! Your characters, BTW, cannot be from England. They are visitors there. Hopefully that’s enough to get the wheels turning. If you’d like to participate and you think this game would be a good fit for you (and vice-versa) reply to this thread with any questions you have, as well as your character concept. First 3-4 solid responses and we’ll go ahead with it! Rick aka Cowpie Zombie
