Redemption for a Goblin: Journal Entry #2 Redemption for a Goblin: Journal Entry #2 My name is Skakan. I’m a goblin. ******* Ah, the valve cluster! Though it’s been ten years, I remember that first battle as though it were yesterday. The temperamental quartet sought the E-213 Valve Cluster deep within Dorashan Tower. We had wandered throughout the fetid bowels of this Host-forsaken tower for a few hours. I could tell the cantankerous crew I guided was growing frustrated. The ill-fated foursome had told me the story about how they had come into a contract for this mission and just enough time had passed that they were starting to ask sundry useless and uncomfortable questions. Such as: “Are we there yet?” (Anubus) “No really, are we there yet?” (Balimere) “Seriously, How much longer?” (Kanaharath) “Okay, Why are we paying this mini-fleshbag?” (Psilon patting his scimitar menacingly) The trouble was that I had absolutely no idea where I was and no clue when I could make my blitz for their blingbling sacks. Onatar scourge my coin-love! Instead, I temporized: “It’s just around the corner”(Re: Anubus) “No really, it’s just around the next bend” (Re: Balimere as he poked me in the back with his rapier) “Not far now!”(Re: Kanaharath) “Put me down, you rusty tool! Givememystuffback!”(Re: Psilon as he shook me upside down) I was clearly running out of time. I knew I had to make my move soon or this testy crew would pummel me to oblivion. Just when I had decided to take my chances with a clean escape, Pallus Ollandra doused me in her bitter ale of Fortune. We stumbled on a value cluster! I had no idea which one, but… “Here we are gentleman!” ******* As Skakan, wretched slave of fate, pointed towards the 12-apertured valve cluster, a Warforged Rogue leapt to strike the rear guard, magnificent Anubus! Meanwhile, the villain’s twin accomplices, feral Shifter Rogues, ran from the opposite end of the valve cluster to engage the party. Splashing down the canal running down the center of the cluster, the Beast-Rogues were intent on the gargantuan Psilon. “Lord of Blades Take You!” cried the Rogue-Forged as he aimed his cunning thrust low to penetrate the buttocks under the pelvis and gouge Anubus’ bowels. But keen-eared Anubus, born to die, sidestepped the fatal blow. Pivoting, Anubus, whose Hand is Death, then hew the pin-shaped head of the Rogue-Forged from his shoulders in one blow and his mighty greatsword gave wing to its Final Messenger. The Juggernaut Psilon, glutton for battle, stumped into the cluster to meet the twin rogues halfway. Fortunately, the rogues knew not their companion’s swift demise on Anubus’ blade. Balimere drew his bow and loosed a frightful volley at the feral Rogue Shifters, but The Keeper had decreed no arrow shall end short his pleasure in battle and he brushed aside the Elf’s dart. Similarly, Kanaharath’s Mind Thrust, though it found its mark, could not lay down its target, the Shifter Rogue. Then Balinor, Lord of Beasts, whispered a plan into the Shifters’ ears. Growling, the twin rogues manifested their Razorclaws and laid wicked swipes into Psilon’, the Mind-Warrior. Only the Psy-Forged’s finely crafted Adamantine Body saved him that day, for the furious blows of the razor sharp claws were partially turned by the hard metal. Yet The Devourer had other plans for the melee in progress. Pallas God of Death chose to open the valve lane where the melee ensued. Gushing jets of raw sewage blasted the pugilists and all three were laid low. But the fell Psilon would not have his glut for battle denied! Quick as a whip, he came to his feet and struck a still prone Shifter Rogue. The Psy-Forged’s charged weapon struck true and cleft the Shifter in twain. Swift Anubus ran to join the melee, but his blade was not made to be wetted on the remaining rogue’s blood. Balimere, Dragonmarked for treachery, loosed another volley, but this time his swift dart landed on the mark and the Shifter previously wounded by willful Kanaharath was finally given to The Devourer. ******* Holy Boldrei, God of Hearths, protect me! The fight had happened so fast. I had hardly had time to hide near a grate in the tunnel before the infernal elf had spotted me at the end of the melee! I came to learn all too well that the fearsome foursome was skillful in dealing death. The group was skilled in other arts as well, but that is another story for my journal. I learned that day that Ollandra, Pallas God of Fortune, has a wry sense of humor. The cluster we stumbled upon was, in fact, the E-213 valve cluster. Why can’t a goblin catch a break?
