I just downloaded and skimmed the free players' guide to Beyond Corny Gron. It's really quite appealing. The one thing that turned me off a bit is that I'm not a big fan of rolling on tables to determine things (background, dress, traits, etc.) about my character, and a lot of the document was taken up with that. However it is useful for skimming and generating ideas. Things I loved:

The artwork! Not standard fantasy fair, but delightfully done and a refreshing change.
The summaries of various factions. No in-depth history, just a few paragraphs of description and a summary of their goals.
The descriptions of common monsters. I'm thinking about this in the light of a current thread (and an infinity of past ones) debating how much new characters would know about monsters. I love that this section (and really this guide) is a concise and readable "here is what your character would know about this world".
Overall the authors managed to escape the trap that so many RPG authors seem to fall into, which is (apparently) to fall in love with their own ideas and writing and just drone on and on and on for pages and pages and pages, so that as a reader I can't ever see the forest for the trees. Even with a relatively quick skim I have a nice image in my head for what this setting is like.
I'm thinking about backing this because I might be able to use a lot of it for a campaign I've been thinking about starting. UPDATE: It's only 10 Euros for the PDF! Backed!
