Casual yes, with the base game. Some supplements are complicated. It is open-ended which means games can run for several hours. Nothing makes the game end if a player doesn't win on their own work. You basically roll and move around the board interacting with spaces, cards, and other characters. You try to improve your character so you can get the Crown of Command and kill the other characters. Lots of killing in the game. You increase stats, gain gold, gain Life, get Objects and Magic Items and Followers, and try to avoid becoming a Slimy Little Toad or getting killed. A story of sorts unfolds in a chaotic way, kind of like playing Basic D&D in a dungeon with random encounters and random treasure rolls. It is my favorite board game. I love the characters and all the cards and the locations. I like the random events and dangerous fellow players and seeing what happens next. You just can't predict what is going to happen next and I really like that aspect of the game. Play to find out what happens. The game has a metastory of sorts with new supplements bringing in a reign of dragons, the end of times, and a post-apocalyptic version (with a wrecked version of the original board) to play after the world ends (it even has a boom stick). I really like the Harbinger supplement and Blood Moon (which has a Halloween theme).
