This adventure starts out as a journey for Talbin, Nodis, Rasereit & Ogrin. They don't start all together, but they should join up soon enough. Even though the characters won't know what each other is up to at first, I won't be putting anything in sblocks. There's no real spoilers here. Talbin. His shopping done, Talbin begins walking back to the Red Dragon Inn, feeling dispirited about how boring its been lately. As he walks he hears a tune being played down an alley. It's a beautiful song, slow and sad, plucked on a lute. Talbin turns into the alley and sees a gaily dressed half-elf, his hair turning white at the temples, strumming away, seemingly lost in thought. Talbin realizes that is is Volidar Stormblade, the Bard who is often seen around the Red Dragon, listening to stories told by the adventurers who frequent the tavern, and sometimes contributing his own. Adventure Summary [sblock] This adventure takes place in the Northern Vastermarch. For various reasons, four adventurers are heading North, near the town of Braeholl. Their small town is attacked as they sleep in a small inn. The heroes kill numerous orcs and move to the hill fort over looking the town with some villagers they saved. There they kill the orc leaders, and their minotaur bodyguard, thus disrupting the invasion in that area. They then escort the surviving villagers to the closest town, Braeholl. On the way, the meet the group from S1, and are attacked by another orc force, as well as an ettin, three ogres, and a half-orc mystic theurge named Tharok, who demand the group yield “the weapon’ to them. During the battle, the Paladin, Torvin Arkenthrasher, who was accompanying the S1 group is struck down after acting suspiciously. Two ‘merchants’ who had been accompanying the caravan turn out to be assassins met earlier by the S1 group, Lothar and Sangster. Unbeknownst to the group, these two assassins earlier confronted a different set of PCs in M3: Assassin’s knot. These two escape the PCs a third time, during the chaos of the battle. They evidently know Torvin, thoug the nature of that relationship is unknown. After defeating this orcs in this second battle, the group reach Braeholl. There they get healed and pursue their individual missions. Banion and Talbin find Banion’s ‘uncle’ Poto Knezer. Talbin had been asked to seek out this gnome by the bard Volidar Stormblade outside the Red Dragon Inn in Orussus, at the beginning of this adventure. Poto tells them he is seeking a dangerous weapon, thought to be an artifact of the evil god Seto, which he believes is in the area. Meanwhile, Torvin Arkenthrasher is healed, and tells a story about finding an underground complex on the farm of one Aif Jenkins. He claims he found Seto’s scythe there, but blacked out when he touched it. Upon awakening, he claims to have been made captive by the Curved Blade forces defeated in S1 by the party. Juliana, Nodis and Talbin decide to leave, to head back to Orussus. Beamer and Banion stay to help Eusebius in his quest to heal Torvin and destroy the scythe.
