Whatever I said about a character for the new game, I'd really just as soon use the idea of Darthan from the game that never got off the ground.

I do not see that character any where. Is it here, but not?

The longer it takes for the game to get started, the more I change my mind. Yesterday, the Dwarf Magus seemed cool. Today, the Halfling Sorcerer seems more fun. Maybe I should just stat both and see.

Not so, Oh Mighty DM! See Posts #4 and #5 for my character concept -- [Darthan - human mercenary fighter (bastard sword specialist and light crossbowman), he is also addicted to games of chance and will bet on just about anything.]

Since I gather that we'll be [starting, at least] in a harbor town, and the other characters have at least a twinge of nautical flavor to them, perhaps I'd better make Darthan a sailor, too, replace his bastard sword specialty with scimitar or falchion specialty. Possibly even glaive, although that is perhaps more difficult to justify as a shipboard weapon. Hmmm....

Concept mentioned in Posts 4, 5, and 11. Never actually got past the concept stage, Don't think you ever told us how many points to use for the build, or if you did I have no idea how many, except that you just posted the point-buy answer: 20.

Proposed Traits
Militant Merchant - You gain a +1 trait bonus to Perception checks made to determine surprise, and Perception is always a class skill for you.
Mathematical Prodigy - You gain a +1 bonus on Knowledge (arcana) and Knowledge (engineering) checks, and one of these skills (your choice) is always a class skill for you.

Proposed Feats
Breadth of Experience - You get a +2 bonus on all Knowledge and Profession skill checks, and can make checks with those skills untrained.
Cosmopolitan - You can speak and read two additional languages of your choice. In addition, choose two Intelligence-, Wisdom-, or Charisma-based skills. Those skills always count as class skills for you.

[BTW, My freshly minted Spousal Persona and I just had breakfast this morning at IHOP with Mleibrock and his family unit, and a good "Rooty-Tooty-Fresh-and-Fruity" time was had by all!]

If I may be forgiven for doing so, I moved one skill point from Darthan's climb skill to take 1 rank of linguistics in order that he may learn the Giant language.
