Subject: [AtirCampaign] Seattle Write up:
By Father Doug McGrave

I was sitting in the atrium of the Seattle Convent High School. This
use to be an all girls school, but its since been changed over to a
coed private school, catering to the poorer neighborhoods. I'm a student advisor in my spare time. I also teach boxing to the after school kids.

Sister Catherine made a special trip to the school to seem me
with a letter inviting me and poor departed Sister Anne of
Catholic Childrens hospital Embellished Illnesses Ward for terminal illnesses.

This particular wing was built
to do research and hospice work for a particularly odd and gruesome
childress disease. The letter was an invite from the founders of the
Doxies Imbellished Disease (DID) Foundation. Sister Anne and I have
worked there since is opening. For me its mostly my spear time, since
most of my time now is spent keeping Jonny out of trouble an into his
books.

So, poor Sister Anne and I caught a cab. I treated her to a new
dress. She looked so lovely in it. She was still in her youth, a mere
43, and was the picture of irish beauty. Poor thing.

The food was fair to midland, and the crowd was mostly the well to
do. I made all the proper pleasantries befitting a person of my
stature. I saw Old Mr Williams of the Ford Grant foundation. He was
looking well. His youngest son was not graduating harvard. I saw
officer Gnatz, a friend of mine from the hospital who lost a daughter
to DID. The food was good. The speeches were speeches. Fortunately I
had 'enough of the dog' to allow me to have a fitfull nod when the
the speeches started. I usually snore myself awake when i fall asleep
sittin up. So it wasnt a problem.

Desert was, if you'll forgive the express, heavenly. And then the
trouble started. There was a last round of introductions. It went
something like this:

"I would like to thank the last of our guests..." And thru each of
the 8 doors in the Celebration hall walks a person. More or less
dressed. And they did the darndest thing. Each one turned around and
locked the doors, and BROKE the keys into the lock. Well dont that
beat all. Yes. Indeed Jim, trouble was brewing. I didnt like it
a'tall.

They walked up one by one and introduced themselves. Then a signal
was given and the lights went out. I felt a big HUG, and passed out.

I woke up in a hospital, to the sound of Jack Williams voice. He was
telling us how lucky were were, and how we were 3 out of 300 that
avoided the slaughter. Begora!! Saints rest their poor souls. My
favorite of all, Sister Anne was now in heaven visiting with the
king. And why... why was that poor woman dead? Why weren't we dead.

This fella told us that there were wierdness in the world, and that
we were being recruited by independ law offices and giving us FBI
powers. I bit my tongue. The 2 other fellas: Cord, an entrepenur,
and Noah an engineering lad of 23, and I were going to be sharing an
apartment. He told is it was important for those that did these
things be convinced we were dead. I accepted it. The fella I keep
out of trouble, my ward, Id guess youd say, had to be told. If he
isn't kept on the straight and narrow, he turns into a holy terror.

There wasnt much we could do till we healed and got moved to the safe
location. Two days later, we moved out ot the house, and were told
that a lad named Shamus would be avaible to breif us.

We got shipped to our new digs. Fortunately our moneys were moved to
new bank accounts, our drivers licenses were moved to names, and our
things were shipped to us in our new appartment.

So, in essence we were to be the new nemisis of wierdness and evil.
We three were now bound in our mortal flesh to join the ancient
armies of the protectorate. Similar to the way Joan got the message
from god to protect her flock, and King Arthur new to take on his
shield and sword. If only it were that well defined.

Our first mission was to head into the park and scout out a couple of
loonies dressed in super hero costumes. Theyd been responsible for
scaring off the locals. A couple of muggings and rollings. The FBI
lost an officer down there. Beats the hell out of my why they didnt
set up a special unit them selves. In the movies, you see the coppers
and the FBI vengence units tracking down their prey. This time for
what ever reason, it was going to be us. And with god on our side, we
were just a step above mans law.

As I said: If only it were that easy.

On the way there. We met 2 fellows walking a dog. They were oddly
dressed but I didnt pay it much mind. One of them grabbed Noah, but
he shrugged the fellow off. The dog scooted off and transformed into
a man. Evil was now making it self pronounced. The 2 others started
firing on us. Noah engaged one of them. We fought for a while. There
were gun blasts, Willy peter grenades, stunguns, and get this... no a
one person stuck his head out the window... hummm... They were
demons for sure. We called for aid but no one responded. Eventually
one of them turned into a puff or green smoke, then another after
taking a host of bullets turned into green smoke. My best guess is
that those things were now dead.

The dog, or wolf man, took off and out ran us. We had no proof that
they existed save the taser they left behind, and a name: Wizard.

The calvary came shortly after. It turns out the evil trio had some
how jammed our radios. Noah was badly hurt, I took a few bruise, and
zaps from the taser.

Who were they? Why were we left alive friday? Why did they tell us
that they came to finish off fridays big mistake? What were they.
I've never seen a man take as much punishment. Its as though my fists
were less effective than a gun. Can you image that, an golden glove boxer
being ineffective?

Other questions: why were we not briefed fully about these groups
that are around. We should be given a class on police powers. I
wouldnt want to do the wrong thing. Even more importantly, if Shamus
and Williams were the only ones who knew where we were, were was the
leak that almost killed me and my new companions. Id sure hate to
have to die more than twice in a 7 day period. IT sounds terribly
unhealthy.

Things to consider: If there is no leak, how are they tracking us.
Have they bugged us? or the phone line? We need to have an anti
bugging squad come by and debug us.

If it is a magical tracking I will spend the next week digging around
in my arcanic books (take 20: total: 26 )and see if i can come up
with a magical block of the scrying device used. If its not magical,
if its something else... like magic of the mind, I might need to seek
out an alternate magic advice (psionocist). I have a friend at a book
store... and Genie... and her aunt.... pretty good at the arts. A bit
odd, we'll see...

Nice DM touches: Faux Newspaper, multiple characters.

I have to hand it to the DM. He had his heart in the right place. To start the campaign he had us make up 3 characters.

The main character is 4th level with 25 stat points.. Our back up characters are 3rd level I think. He gave us the option of starting a level lower making up a 30 point character, or 2 levels lower for making up a 35 point character.

When ever our main character goes up in experience points we get to level up one of the alternate characters. Thats clever.

For a modern campaing, id say 25 points was too low. and I have beefs with the whole feat system. He is going to let us by additional feats, stats, and skills with experience points. I think the skill system is fine the way it is.

A featured point that the gm is doing is providing us with a fake newspaper for the start of the game. It gives us a sense of freedom for deciding what to do for the game. A sense of freedom isnt bad eh?

Letting players make their own decisions has always been a big thing for me. The perfect example of this is running a Traveller game. The players get to make some of their own adventures, travelling from planet to planet, accepting the odd mission, buying/selling/trading, exploring etc... I would love to figure out how to translate that to a fantasy game

Anyway.....

I would be interested in hearing from my any of you on alternate ways of getting feats, stats, and skills.
