Spahn have partnered together to form a new small press to publish role-playing games and gaming material: Small Niche Games.[/B] The company plans to publish a number of products using the d20 System and other licensed systems in both PDF and print format. Spahn's Vice Squad: Miami Nights (artwork by Empty Room Studios), is to be Small Niche Games's first release. Spahn's older title Dreamwalker: Roleplaying in the Land of Dreams, along with its numerous supplements and spinoffs, will also be absorbed into the company. Other products are currently in development. Rick Hershey's first company, Empty Room Studios, is a provider of high quality illustration and writing services for the creative needs of both large and small publishing companies. Hershey's continued operation of ERS suggests a close relationship between his studio and Small Niche Games. "When you have worked for as many great clients on as many projects as I have, it's almost impossible not to get the urge to create your own material," Hershey said. Small Niche Games is an independent endeavor, but I would be a fool not to utilize some of the high quality work ERS staff members can provide. I can almost guarantee there will be some sort of collaboration between the two companies down the road." In an effort to engage readers, gamers, and potential customers, Hershey and Spahn plan to operate a blog on their site that gives insight into game design and the publishing process. "I'm very excited about this partnership," Spahn says. "Good writing only goes so far. You have to have artwork to back it up, and Rick brings in some of the best. I think what we're doing here is going to be really fun---we'll get to publish a lot of interesting little 'niche games' and game concepts that might have been passed over by the larger companies."
