I am having some fun. I have several ideas for character builds and since I am DMing a game, I get to use them as a NPCs. This character is a Sorcerer Infiltrator. The purpose of the character is to go behind enemy lines and spy/ cause chaos. The character is not a maximum damage character but is used to support its party and cause havoc behind enemy lines. The character concept is to create a multiclass character with sorcerer and a low level character in another class - druid, rogue, or cleric. A druid or cleric is appealing as the character could carry a staff or rod as a walking aid that doubles as a spell focus. The character pretends to be a low level character in the "other" class. The sorcerer character would use the meta-magic "subtle spell" and "distant spell" to cast spells unobserved. Spells would be limited to spells that do not require materials (preferably) or spells that have material components that can be replaced as a spell focus. Also, the character would not use spells that use rays or visible effects that show that the character cast the spell. Imagine a low level light cleric which joins a lord's army to take care of the wounded. The character could move about the battlefield using "Spare the Dying" and healer's kits to look like he/ she is helping the battle. At the same time, the character can be quietly casting spells taking out key NPCs and groups of attackers. In the fog of war, the character's actions would be unnoticed. Imagine a low level thief that has gone into the town as a scout for its party. As the party moves about the town, the character can stay at a distance providing cover for the party as it completes its mission. There are many spells in the spell book that have no material component. A sampling of spells follows. Some of the usual sorcerer spells are useful but the key to this character is secrecy. Cantrip Minor image - Has a material component that can be replaced by the spell focus. Always useful. Prestidigitation - Lots of possibilities for distracting people or enhancing encounters. 1st Level Charm Person - Up to one hour of converting someone unhelpful to helpful. Comprehend Languages - Material component that can be replaced by spell focus. Listen in on any conversation. Disguise Self - Always useful for a spy. No concentration. Use it to cover up the physical traits of "dragon ancestry". Fog Cloud - Shut down the ranged attackers firing at your party, events, plays , confuse pursuers. Shield - The actual shield is invisible. Silent Image - Has a material component that can be replaced by spell focus. Always useful. Sleep - Has a material component that can be replaced by the spell focus. Thunderwave - Qualifies as no material but not exactly subtle. 2nd Level Alter Self - Better version of Disguise Self plus the ability to give yourself natural weapons. Get a private audience with the lord and ... surprise. Blindness/ Deafness - Short range 30 feet but it shuts down one character Crown of madness - Sic one character on another. Fight an enemy though another. 3rd level Counterspell - Shutdown a spellcaster within 60 feet. Daylight - Tell your side where to attack. Spoil enemy ambushes. Put drow at disadvantage. Dispel Magic - Cancel a magic effect. Especially effective against fly spells. 4th level Blight - Damage spell Dimension Door - 500 feet teleport Dominate Beast - Attack others through a beast. Image a war dog or bull causing havoc. Greater Invisibility - Disappear quietly 5th level Animate Objects. Great damage spell. Select up to 10 objects 120 feet away and have them attack. Grab the archers arrows and have them attack the archers. Cloudkill - Good damage spell. Cast on the top of the tower and have it sink down through each level. Dominate Person. Take control of a NPC and direct them to your advantage Seeming - Disguise your friends to look like peasants. Make one group of guards look like the enemy to another group of guards. Make a group of NPCs look like your party confusing pursuers. Telekinesis - Move objects secretly. Throw defenders from wall. 6th level Arcane gate - Run into a room by yourself. Run out of the run with 100 of your closest friends. Open a gate behind a curtain during a social event. 7th level Finger of death Fire storm Teleport 8th level Dominate Monster Incendiary Cloud Power Word Stun 9th level Meteor Storm Power Word Kill Time Stop Wish What do you think of the concept? Any suggestions.
