That is not a place where I would have expected to see D&D marketed.

No Honor Among Thieves starter set, but a Valpak ad buy?

I just don't know any more ...

The book shelves of Target are stocked with the various novels and the PHB (last I looked)
The gaming shelves of Target have Starter and Essentials boxes.

They seem to have decided that all D&D is Honor Among Thieves.

I'm with you. They should have delayed Stormwreck Isle's release and made it a strong link to the movie (like say the prequel novel's plot).
Or a prequel, or a side story or anything. It's also weird that they're so keen to put the cartoon characters in the Stormwreck art, despite not having any products to sell with them in it at this point, but not the movie characters.

I do think there will be a new D&D cartoon soon, but putting in the cartoon characters is them being speculative, while they knew Honor Among Thieves was imminent.

🤷‍♂️

Presumably Paramount is responsible for the promotion rather than Hasbro. When it comes to things that can be achieved just by handing more money to an ad agency they're pulling out all the stops. When it comes to anything that would actually require time from WotC or Hasbro design staff, they are doing the absolute minimum.
