Stargate: SG-1 and its counterpart, Stargate: Atlantis ceased their long run on television in 2009. They continue to air in syndication well through the opening decades of the 21st century.
In 2010, after several years of fighting Congressional budget cuts, the Stargate program saw a temporary shutdown in operations except for the ongoing expedition to Atlantis. Operations began again after 2012 and an abortive invasion via the gates that was narrowly thwarted by veterans of the program. After the incident, Congress saw fit to fund the Stargate program once more in the hopes that such invasions would no longer occur.
There has not been a similar incident since.
The Stargate located at the Cheyenne Mountain complex has become a hub for alien immigration to Earth. These aliens, once they are escorted clear of the complex, fall under the purview of other organizations. The Stargate program is still primarily a military operation with scientific and exploratory arms. Its primary function is to ensure the security of Earth, whether through positive relations with other worlds or through military force (or threat thereof). The program remains volunteer-only and little information has leaked to the public. Only organizations required to work closely with Stargate Command know much about their operations. Some reports have leaked to the public, but most that do are believed to be fictional, based on the memory of a television series that ran for over a decade.
Stargate Command falls under the purview of the classified Department of Homeworld Security, which was created in the early years of the twenty-first century. Also under this department is the small fleet of starships and advanced fighters which quietly defend the planet and police its skies. Individuals from the armed forces of many nations are members of this force. The fleet consists of seven ships similar to the original Promethus and Daedalus, with three more under construction in various locations, and several wings of small, spaceworthy fighters of various designs.
