Subdual damage vs DR

Hypersmurf

Moderatarrrrh...
Is subdual damage treated the same as normal damage when opposing Damage Reduction?

For example, punching something with DR 5/-. Does the target :

1/ incur 1d3 + Str subdual damage?
2/ incur 1d3 + Str subdual damage, less 5 for DR?
3/ incur no damage, because subdual damage is too weak to affect a creature with Damage Reduction?

After looking thru the DMG and PHB it does not say you would not take subdual damage differentlly from regular damage.
So, subtract the DR as you would normal damage from the subdual damage, and if you are using a magic weapon or spell or something that can let you go thru the DR the subdual damage will 'go thru it' the same way normal danage does.
