As it's a d20 system, how does it distinguish itself from other gritty/low-power games like Dungeon Crawl Classics or other d20 OSR games?

Cheers! The best summary is probably the one page summary on p.5 of the playtest doc, but to paraphrase: Dark & Dangerous Magic (roll to cast, levelless spells, with escalating chance of mishap, including a claw hand!), 9 classes only 2 of which have magic (low to moderate magic default), 9th level max, flatter hp curve (approx 10-40 hp over 9 levels), Unique Features every 3rd level (design your own with your GM, or choose from a list), Roll under attributes, roll high attack/dmg, Simple skills with Reroll pool, Wisdom is split into Perception & Willpower, Martial Exploits on top of damage not in lieu, Range Bands, Quick Initiative, Dimishing Luck stat replaces saves, clear escape/chase rules, short rests allow Willpower checks to recover some hp/abilities, Downtime chapter, Emergent Play & Solo support via design + Card/Dice Oracles, will be a Creative Commons licence.
