Time and again, he was caught practicing moving water in the air with the motions of his hand, or holding a fire in the palm of his hand. Every time, he was forced to whip himself, to rid himself of the sin of practicing strange magics. But this did not deter him. Finally, at the age of 21, he was given a choice: Forgo his strange magics, or leave the monastery. </p><p></p><p>In the hardest decision of his life, he bid farewell to those who raised him and showed him every kindness, who taught him all he had learned about life.
