Well, he'd tried. Once. All he got from it was a mental hammer-blow of such blinding ferocity and rage that he'd sat trembling on his stool for a good ten minutes before reaching for his brandy bottle. Which was empty, of course. Because he'd forgotten to fill it up last night.</p><p></p><p>Last night had been no better. And that was another thing ...</p></blockquote><p></p>
