As you are what seems to be unofficial spokesperson for EGG here, I think it is still within the remit of the subject title. I understand the role of education to try and help some folk perceive differently, in some ways it's laudable. The problem I feel though is that it is unlikely to generate a positive change. I think the chances of swaying a persons opinion in a well-stated paragraph has as much chance as you winning the lottery that you don't actually play. Technology, and social media specifically is very much to blame for this, as is the education system. Folk need to be taught discernment, which would lead to better judgement. When there are internet topics that contradict each other with plausible truths, it is no wonder folk are struggling. 10 reasons why you should drink orange juice every day vs 10 reasons why you should not drink orange juice every day. Both seem legitimate, but are either truthful (straying off topic here I know). So, circling back, when you exclude someone, whoever they are, from partaking in activity/community, in that persons thoughts are why (and likely anger and associated phrases). Why was I excluded? Where this exclusion is bigoted, based on race, creed, LGBTQ+ then the why is obviously hateful, and as such, it should be challenged, and vocally. When the exclusion is because of poor behaviour based on ideological differences, then there is perhaps a small chance of self-reflection. Though TBH such folk are more likely to blame those folk excluding them. (wild speculation I know.) Returning to your point about in-person events, short of overt clothing or vocal statements, you are unlikely to know the politics of strangers you meet at a gaming space. I think it is reasonable that if folk "behave appropriately" then there is no reason to "kick them out", and I am not sure this was ever the problem in the article or discussion points that have been made. Almost exclusively the discussion points being made are around poor behaviour that you appear to be excusing with a "but [........................]" comment. I feel that is why folk are responding as they are. For example it could be suggested that the reported bad behaviour is ok because a) you didn't see it b) you didn't experience it c) there are [......race, creed, LGBTQ+......] folk working at EGG d) I would have said something if I was there e) it was taken out of context. None of these are good looks. If you are intending to change the title of this topic to The Rise and Fall and Rise of Evil Genius Games then you need to look hard at your responses, and why people are seeing it differently, you are coming off as an apologist, which also isn't a good look.
