I'm fine to get a lecture or too, and as you might be able to tell, I like "arguing" especially when its civil and thoughtful. So all good there. Point taken, I'll try to be more explicit that I don't accept bigotry. Though again, in the case of Facebook, its not my group or the companies group, its a fan run group and I don't control it. So I can say what I want, but I can't actually tell them what to do. In my many discussions with more right wing people, I find most of them would tell you they also don't stand for bigotry and feel hurt when people call them bigots because they don't think they are. Sometimes they are lying, sometimes they are ignorant, sometimes they don't understand the connection from what they say to bigotry. I try to separate political affiliation with bigotry, aka not all republicans/conservatives are bigots. Woke is certainly one of those telling remarks, but it's not in and of itself bigotry in my opinion. It probably is, but I'd usually try to dig deeper with the person saying it. In the Facebook group I posted what I think Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity mean in terms of game design, and largely, no one disagreed, liberal or conservative. People really do have more common values than they think when you strip away the language made divisive by right wing political propagandists. Agreed 100% And I've misgendered cis people in the past and felt bad about that as well. Were I in a place like this where I could have a longer discussion with that guy, I might have tried explaining this to him. At one point he asked "how can I explain this to my daughter?" And I though, "Just tell HER what pronouns are and how to use them like every other child leans in English class." But he was getting reported already by that point and my goal as a mod was to get him to shut up or go away. I get that, but my goal is not to demonstrate my inclusiveness. I'm just going to do that by how I live my life and treat people. I get that you are asking me to be more vocal, and I'll take that to heart. That said, I am not here to police people's thoughts. Bigots can be bigots, but if they turn that bigotry into words or actions, then I will also take action. Until then, their private thoughts are theirs to wrestle with and not business of mine. I can sit at a table with a bigot, I won't abide them speaking bigoted ideas or abusing the target of their contempt. If they can behave themselves, I can can accept them. Many people struggle with their own thoughts, but I try to judge by and deal with actions first and foremost. Well, if you talk about Dave, that's one person, but if you talk about EGG or its work environment, that's everyone who works there. People kind of blend the two in this conversation. I can't read Dave's mind, so I don't know if he intentionally misgendered anyone with certainty, or if he was or was not trying hard. I can only say that in the many conversations we have had about diversity and identity, Dave has never expressed any disdain, only support for diversity and inclusion efforts. I'm not saying what he thinks, only what I've seen him say and my sense of whether he was earnest. I don't want to go deep into trying to psychoanalyze my boss in public... so I'll leave it at that. I'm not dancing, I'll answer nearly any question you ask me, but you have to ask it for me to know what it is you want me to speak to. Again, you can believe what you want, but unless you were there, you don't really know. I was there, and I don't truly know what's in anyone's heart, but I can say from all I've seen working with the man for two years, he's not a homophobe or transphobe. I've got critiques of my boss, but again, I won't disparage any of the people I work or have worked with in a public forum like this. The same goes for my former colleagues. I've got nothing bad to say about them. They have my respect and sympathy and that's that.
