You know all these threads out there about I don't like this, I don't like that have one thing in common: Everyone has their own view of what a game is. It doesn't matter whether you just use a few house rules: this (class, feat, prestige class, build, skill, spell, monster, etc) is broken so I'm not going to use it. Or this (class, feat, prestige class, build, skill, spell, monster, etc) is nerfed so I'm going to de-nerf it. Or All the way up to, it doesn't matter if you want to rewrite the entire game and make your own version creating variants such as 2nd Edition, 3.x edition, Pathfinder, 4e, True20, etc. And yes, they are all variants of the game that our recently dear and departed Gygax and Arneson wrote. In fact they went on to make other games. And there is nothing wrong with any of them and there are lots of things wrong with all of them. That is why this board exists for us to share what we like and don't like about the games. If there was a perfect game this board will be boring (but then again it would be less contentious). Despite the fact that I've played a wide variety of games, I was nervous about 3e and I was nervous about 4e. I still have yet to find a game that does everything I want and I'm afraid I never will. But then that is what makes this all interesting. And it will never stop me from playing. And I extend this to the industry as a whole. Hero, GURPS, Palladium, and Chaosium with their small but loyal fanbases. White Wolf which brought a large influx of gamers who had never played before in with their innovative games. And all the indie gamers who don't want the one size fits all games and introduce such things as pools into their game play. So game, as long as you play and teach others to play the hobby will never die.
