[QUOTE="trilobite, post: 1992014, member: 15531"] The prow of the ship cut through the water like a knife. The great Yu was calm this afternoon and its surface was like glass. The taskmaster's drum beat a steady rhythm for the bare chested slaves as they pulled on the long oars. Solitaire strained to see the village in the distance. It didn't look like much just a collection of wooden lodges and several longboats pulled up on the sandy beach. It was nothing compared to Great Opar and the stone cities of the Tejec. But it was something new and exciting. The Speaker was on the upper deck talking with the Captain. He gestured to the village ahead and to the sun in the sky. She knew that he was impatient to get to his task. Sailors scampered about like monkeys pulling ropes and preparing the ship. Overseer Hoola stepped up beside Solitaire. His face had an even more sour expression than normal. "Girl! Stop day dreaming and get below. I want you to make sure all of the Speakers belongings is unloaded in a timely fashion. And make sure none of these thieving Vett take anything!" Solitaire knew that this was the Overseer's job, but ever since Hoola had gotten that talisman from that Tejec witch he felt that Solitaire could not touch him with her magic. Up to now she had let him keep on believing that. -------------------------------------------------------- Word of the Oparian ship's arrival had spread like wild fire. Women and children lined up on the beach to get a look at the Oparians. Off in the distance the ship crawled towards the shore. Ernst stood trying to gauge how long it would take them to reach the beach. If he hurried he could have the Oparians lodging ready before they arrived. Damn them, he had just sit down for his supper. The smell of Sharra's stew still linged in the back of his mind. --------------------------------------------------------- Blacktail finished arranging his collection of beads, feathers, and shells on the end of his spear. He stared at it for a few minutes to make sure all was in order. Finally he was statisfied that the peace token was correct. Other wise some hot headed human might take a shot at him with a arrow. The token anounced to all that his intentions were peacefull and that he wanted to trade. Terrible was the price to anyone who broke a peace token. Blacktail then started to walk down to the human village. --------------------------------------------------------- Kpache and Tova sat drinking the spicey Kava of these humans. It had rich wonderful nutty taste. Kpache would have to get the recipe. It was very strong too. He had better not drink to much or he would not be very much good in the trading to come. His head was already beginning to spin. Suddenly his friend Hillis ran up in a exicted manner. "A Oparian ship is sailing into port! Come lets take a look." Tova spat. "Oh calm down Hillis. What do we care for some Opar scow!" Hillis stared at Tova with a frown. "The people here say a important Oparian Thak is aboard! They might have gold, silver, and gems to trade! We could be rich!"
