D&D General What is the worst piece of DM advice people give that you see commonly spread?

Suddenly everything about the blighted concept of Bounded Accuracy becomes clear. They really do want the dice to be more important than anything else.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: "Bounded accuracy" is mostly not about boundedness, and mostly not about accuracy. One might argue that the term "Bounded Accuracy" has a low upper bound on its accuracy!

The vast majority of DMing advice I regularly see is that the way to handle a player doing almost anything the DM doesn't like-- mostly playing rules-legitimate but non-traditional characters-- is to passive-aggressively take it out on the player's character instead of discussing their conflicting tastes like mature and rational adults.

You don't like something? Negotiate. If the player won't reach a compromise with you, put your Viking hat on and lay down the law. But do grow up about it.
