One of the games I run happens to be hosted by a guy who has tons of lego - he has most of the collectors edition lego sets, and a ton of other bricks besides. Sometimes when I travel up early enough (it's about 3 hours on a train), I build lego scenery. Here's one I ran during the 5e playtest - I made a load of dungeon segments that I could slot together, and one set piece: The set piece was a sliding block puzzle: http://granite.earth.gkhs.net/~ccooke/dnd/photos/2013-04-14%2019.41.33.mp4 We had a load of old 1e cardboard creature tokens, which went into the various compartments of this thing so that the players could reveal them. My favourite was the 10' hole with a very clean skeleton all in bits at the bottom of it and a very shiny clean sword (yes, of course there's a gelatinous cube in the hole. The players just managed to spot it before trying to go pick up the sword :-) You can definitely build nice settings with lego, if you have the right pieces available. I especially like the way you can hide details in them. For instance, here's a throne room I built for a game a few years back: http://granite.earth.gkhs.net/~ccooke/dnd/photos/IMG_3029.JPG And here it is with the revealed pit-of-magma portal to a hell dimension: http://granite.earth.gkhs.net/~ccooke/dnd/photos/IMG_3033.JPG - It was built so that I could basically punch through the tiles above the pit and have broken bits scatter everywhere. I definitely couldn't build set-pieces like this for every session. It takes too long, and I think it would get stale. But lego is excellent to help present encounters which can take place in areas with several different heights, or as a rare bit of enhancement.
