Fantasy Flight Games - Leading publisher of board, card, and roleplaying games.

- Star Wars: The Card Game - a co-operative LCG (similar to the recent hit LOTR LCG)
- X-Wing - a tactical miniature game

From the http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=2528official announcement:
FFG said:
Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce that it has entered a comprehensive licensing partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd. for the worldwide rights to publish card, roleplaying, and miniatures games set in the popular Star Wars™ universe!

”Being able to publish gaming products in the Star Wars universe is quite simply a hobby-game company’s dream come true,” said Christian T Petersen, CEO of Fantasy Flight Games. “I’m confident that both Star Wars fans as well as FFG’s regular customers will be blown away by the game experiences we have planned for this legendary IP.”

“As a leader in hobby gaming, we’re excited to be partnering with Fantasy Flight Games,” said Howard Roffman, President of Lucas Licensing. “Fun and adventure are hallmarks of the Star Wars saga, and FFG perfectly captures this in their games.”

FFG’s first two Star Wars game lines will be the X-Wing miniatures game and Star Wars: The Card Game, both scheduled to launch in early 2012.

Interesting times ahead...

Cheers!

Not to put a downer on things.. okay well I am unfortunetly.

I dont see why you would pick up this license, esp now that the only Starwars on tv/screen is Clone Wars. The previous editions have 'benefitted' from the more recent movies. I just fail to see the logic.

Yes I know there are millions of Star Wars fans out there, but Star Wars gamers? Im not so sure. If the Star Wars rpg had of been profitable , then I doubt Wizards and others would have let it go.

I hope it does well, but I have this theory that is akin to building a tower in Dagobah.

FFG are likely to make a *lot* more money through their non-RPG games through the license than any possible Star Wars RPG. Their most recent LCG - The Lord of the Rings - has been fantastically successful. It's a co-operative game, and so gives us a clue as to what the Star Wars LCG will be like.

(I have quite a few FFG boardgames; it may be that this license doesn't include a "boardgame" license.)

Cheers!

West End games got the license and was producing Star Wars RPG stuff when the last Star Wars movie had ended over 10 years ago and the prequels weren't even a blip on the radar. They built enough prestige with their line that it became canon!

Of course now we have an extra 3 movies of crap that has tarnished the property a great deal. I do think FFG will make money off of the license but it won't be from RPGs. Boardgames, card games and maybe minis are where the real money lies. RPGs are a sideline at best in this case.
