I liked season one, not one of the best but was hooked all those years ago. Pacing was good. I recommend buying marshmellows, popcorn and a nice seat for tomorrow. It's going to be a meltdown of epic proportions, that petition is going to have 2 million+ signatures this time next week.

Voted for 2E as it has options and has aged the best plus settings. Played all the old ones in the last 5 years and 2E is one of the better ones along with B/X.

Na we have Bat Sparkles. Still might surprise us. Go to it with low expectations and you might get pleasantly surprised. I did that for Terminator 3. Failing that watch it drunk. Might be good, remember George Clooney.

We watched them and they were alright but dumped the lot. Gotham, Agents, Arrow, Flash all went downhill. Luke Cage and Jessica Jones were better but got cancelled. Iron Fist was just bad.

I'll add a plus one for Fauda and Money Heist on Netflix for foreign language stuff. Waiting on season 3 for both. 3% has a good season one and decent season 2. Sense 8 had good season one, average season 2 but got cancelled.

Michael Keaton is a great actor. He even nailed Ray Kroc in The Founder on Netflix. Have not watched a Batman movie since the Dark Knight. When you basically nail perfection anything else is gonna look bad.

GFB isn't useless it's just good on classes you you may not expect like arcane clerics. Sorcerers and Bladesingers are a bit more obvious.

Season 5 looks better by comparison now. Season 6 is probably the best one in the second half of the show. Season 7 was when it started to feel rushed. If you watch the earlier ones it's really a series of short cutscenes of around 5 or 6 minutes. That was enough to cover the plot and character development. Leaves episode 2 as the peak of this season IMHO.

That's no longer true though. Solo was a flop. Rian had his chance, blew it and is now going to do made for tv. D&D 4/8 you get something great, 1/8 something good, 2/ 8 ok, 1/8 TLJ 2.0. They don't have anything to adapt though they don't seem to do to well without a blueprint. Maybe D_D can do something good.

Can't blame any of the actors they did their jobs and mostly did it well. Started watching season one and yeah it went downhill a bit but was still good. It's disappointment, feels like Phantom Menace 2.0. They took one of the greatest shows ever and dropped the ball on it.

The adventure paths were really it. Look at the early ones, 100 odd pages of which just over half was the actual adventure the rest of it was fluff mostly related to the adventure. Later on the adventures had a theme (Egypt, pirates, rulership etc). Not a magazine in the traditional sense but functionally similar to Dragon/Dungeon.

Rian is the director for The Last Jedi. Anyway Disney has mapped out their release plans through to 2026. There is only one Star Wars trilogy and Iger (head of Disney) confirmed that D&D from Game of Thrones will be doing it. Now Disney announced Rian was getting his own trilogy. But they have been quiet on that. So have they basically dumped Rian? At best his trilogy has been pushed...

The odds of a hill giant having 9 hp legitimately in 1E are very remote. I assume you assigned the hp rather than rolled. That's a very very weak hill giant. Sure the occasional one like that is understandable but the minion rules are silly and gamist because it implies there are alot of them like that. World's squishiest giant sure why not if it's a one off or rare. Dragon breath...

I liked having Jeffrey around and loved to hate him. Ramsay was just cartoon evil, and what he did to Sansa wasn't in the books and wasn't needed, didn't do anything to advance the plot etc. Joffrey and Tywin being killed was around where the show started heading down hill imho. What made Jeffrey great was probably his age.

As I said it was the execution of everything. Personally I would have had Dany steamroll Cersei a the end of season 7, and have season 8 focus on the Night King who over runs the North and makes it to Kings Landing.

Dragons make sense in the context of their world. Dragons aren't invincible, see season 6 iirc but it's jarring to see one shot down and then in the next episode they can't hit one to literally save their lives. More of a pacing issue, problem they have had since season 7.

AA fire in WW2 with exploding shells wasn't that effective and relied on lots of flak. Shooting a Dragon down in the air at hundreds of metres range is fairly implausible, and shots at that range with military rifles is difficult for the average soldier through to WW2 (it's why the Germans invented the MP44).

Those scorpions were bigger than anything IRL. Max range IRL is around 400 metres, effective range about half of that. You couldn't really use siege weapons to sink ships reliably before gunpowder. It's why they used boarding and Rams. I don't expect a massive amount of realism in shows like GoT, but they keep doing idiotic stuff like marching the Golden Company outside the city walls. ...

Quality didn't fall off a cliff until this season mostly from the 3rd episode. By then you have 3 episode left after watching for 8 years so may as well finish it The difference is even the casuals are wtf. YouTube is overwhelmingly negative BBC gave the episode 2/5 and workmates also don't like it. Episode 1 was typical first episode, 2 was really good and then bleah.

The problem is mainly us applying industrial scale production in a pre industrial world. There's probably not enough Druids to do plant growth en masse. A wizard would need to know how to make armor, be powerful enough to cast the right spells and be inclined to do it.

I don't think 4E was any worse than any other edition in terms of how it represented hit points. Healing surges and rapid non magical healing were a bit absurd though. Both made the game grindy and easy mode especially combined with minor action healing like healing word and the other equivalents. All the modern D&Ds suffer from hit point inflation as well as PCs deal more damage/are tougher...

Kind of with Lowkey, it wasn't the worst TV ever. Dexter, Trueblood, and How I met your Mother were all fairly unwatchable in the last seasons. This season is more of a let down and a lot of stupid. Compared to how good the show was the disappointment I think is the thing. I think the word is anti climatic. It's basically this seasons problem combined with the pacing. Danys turn may have been a bit heavy handed but Morrus is right. She has been cruel for years it's just mostly the baddies. Cleganebowl got a big send off and the Night King got a knife in back. Arya also probably got to much screen time. Cersei got sod all this season. Who cares about...

Sorcerers can be damage dealers, but that way lies quick resource depletion and nova damage. Another -better (IMO)-way to play them is focusing on buffing/debuffing. Back in the day defliers got to level up faster, but in one of the splats IIRC they got a penalty on charisma checks. In 5E I suppose if you defiles or got defiler points you could use them to enhance your spells via caster levels and every time you cast you defile- its not optional. Defilers would have disadvantage on charisma ability checks. Defile hard enough and a spell gains +1 spell...

If you are determined to be an archer take sharpshooter or crossbow expert and arrow storn and hex or hunters quarry at 10. If you have sharpshooter buff Dex to 20 and take spells like faerie Fire and greater invisibility. You'll never be great at it but it's a simple build, valor bards are better melee or with rolled stats.

I had both back then and say between 2006 and 2009 the PS3 was quite meh. 360 had the best games, best online stuff, best controllers etc the PS3 was actually kind of bad initially. It took a while for its library to catch up and ts debatable if it ever did. 2006 IIRC we were playing CoD2 online, Gears of War was good, Halo didn't suck, Mass Effect was not available on the PS3 for a bit etc. It...

Well apparently there is a twist but its terrible. Last 3 basic plot points have been leaked, I've avoided reading about it but have heard bits and pieces. The show started going down hill season 5, picked up a bit with 6 and then fell off a cliff with the pacing and stuff being a mess. THis episode loved the 1st half or 2/3rds felt like an older season, then it kind of got silly.

Kind of but its part VIII of a series over 40 years and I think that is a big part of the backlash against it. If you switch your brain off it works, when you think about the plot holes, and how it relates to the other movies it has issues even if you only use TFA as a comparison point. It passes muster as a semi mindless action flick like Independence Day something like that. Somewhere in the...

Thought I would share a funny story. Locally D&D is doing great with several stores stocking it and 1 dedicated game store and another store that has gaming rooms for Magic, board games, D&D etc. Tues-Thursday is D&D night and each night is 3 groups. There is some overlap of players. AL never really caught on as the DMs didn't like it and the drop in drop out nature of it didn't work. Anyway...

Context I was talking about a half elf valor bard, yes there are other races and options available. Your elf build is a lot worse at being a bard with 13 charisma so you're sacrificed bard dice and spell casting ability to make an archer who is worse at being an archer than other classes.

You're not going to be a great archer no matter how you build it. This is because you lack the classes features to bump up your damage and the +2 archery style to off set the -5/+10 part of sharpshooter. You also lack shells like hunters quarry and hex. You can steal the level 5 ranger spell at 10 but blowing a level 5 spell slot for an extra two average attacks is a bit underwhelming. ...

What console is best has been a lively debate since the 90's or so with the SNES vs Megadrive/Genesis. It probably predates them even but the Atari and NES were a bit of a blowout. Some things there has been a campaign of sorts to tank a score, while I kind of wonder the same thing with critics in regards. That...

Kingmakets fairly easy to run as is for 5E their are only a few unique monsters in part one and two. The Kingdom building rules need a slight overhaul as you can build your kingdom as a magical lolly Mart and get free items iirc. I think that was so you use your loot on settlements. Part one and two hold up pretty good and the kingdom rules are fun initially but start falling apart later....

Yes! Heck that's a story all by itself! So you *call* yourself a skald, and you even have the entertainer background (BTW, SUPER IMPORTANT: If you are new to 5e, be sure to read the background chapter! It's not just roleplaying fluff, half your skills can come from your background. It's like a mini-class!). You know how to heal, you know how to fight (pact of the blade maybe?), you know how to sing... but you have a secret. You really didn't have that *spark* that distinguishes great bards (ie the one with bardic magic) from others. Until one day, you met that mysterious teacher... Thanks for the replies @Paul Farquhar @Zardnaar and @Ancalagon, and all due respect, but I really want to stick to playing a bard and just interested in having him be an archer so that he can deal some attack damage/and survive combat because he's further from the worst monsters. Things like Paladin, Warlock wouldn't match his backstory or the way I want to RP him.

So from reading all of the replies, here are my follow-up ideas/questions for you guys - @Zardnaar, @TwoSix, @Mistwell, @Tony Vargas, @Treantmonklvl20 I'll format this to go by topic: Is there something you'd recommend outside an archer bard that would fit my char's style (maybe some simple-type multiclass I mentioned in the OP or something else)? Also, is a ranged bard preferable to keep him safer due to lower defense/HP and for spell concentration? Ability Scores: Cool so I'll probably take the STR10 DEX16 CON12 INT10 WIS12 CHA16 then. (I care about strength as I'd like to have decent athletics score and wisdom, again, for the skills) Although, I'm a bit worried regarding the CON - I've seen a lot of talk that it's important - for concentration I think? So in order to avoid issues casting, I should equip just a sword if I'm not using ranged at the moment, not the shield? (and keep shield around just in case, but I'm not sure when I'd use it) For armor, yeah I don't want penalties to stealth as I'd like my char to be able to sneak around in the wilderness camouflaged or ...

Not really. Yes, things take more time when something goes wrong, but Hofstadter's Law is less about things going wrong, and m ore about how poorly humans estimate. Basically, even if everything goes well, your estimate of completion date will still be wrong. And in case @Zardnaar missed the subtlety (and the joke) of Hofstadter's Law: it's recursive. Even if you take into account Hofstadter's Law, you are underestimating, no matter how many times you take into account Hofstadter's Law.

  • 09:35 PM - Mercurius mentioned Zardnaar in post Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi argument
@Zardnaar, I empathize with some of your issues with TLJ and don't think questioning whether Rey is a Mary Sue or not is inherently sexist, but I think you are going a bit overboard in trying to line her up with Luke and compare them in every detail. No matter what way you look at it, their "Mary Sueness" is similar. The only thing that bothered me about Rey's Mary Sueness in TFA was how she could hang with Kylo Ren in a lightsabre duel. I know he was injured, but it still seemed a bit absurd and definitely damaged my suspension of disbelief. But overall she wasn't really any more Mary Sueish than Luke. If she was, it wasn't by much - and not worth getting upset about. The Mary Sue is a female version of wish fulfillment. Luke, and superheroes in general, are male versions of wish fulfillment. I don't know why female wish fulfillment would be any worse, except insofar as TFA felt like fan fiction and the Mary Sue is derived from fan fiction. The more obvious difference is that it is generall...

Zardnaar The data you’re citing is all about the fanbase prior to The Force Awakens being released. Based on that, it’s not surprising to find out that the “average fan” was someone who grew up on the original movies. But that doesn’t mean that’s who the movie IS or SHOULD BE aimed at. The goal is to reach a new generation of fans. To get viewers interested enough that they continue to enjoy the films and merchandise for decades. Now, there’s no reason that the films cannot appeal to both a new audience and the traditional audience. I’d argue that these films do exactly that. But there’s a clear “passing the torch” element in these new films that seems to bother some fans. Imagine if the episodes had been released chronologically. I would expect many fans would have lost their minds when Obi-Wan was killed off to start the second trilogy and pass the torch to a new hero. The criticisms of Luke would have been very similar to those of Rey...with one significant difference. People ...

Zardnaar: How do you feel about the inconsistent travel times in the various Star Wars movies? Are you able to handwave them away with the whole “speed of plot” thing? If so, can you not also handwave away inconsistent training times as a “speed of plot” thing? Audiences have shorter attention spans these days. Ain’t nobody got time for training montages anymore! As for the chain quoting, you were advised upthread to clear your cache and close all ENWorld windows on your phone. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to just manually edit out the extraneous quoted posts.

  • 05:54 AM - Luz quoted Zardnaar in post Best 5e high level adventure?
There's some in Quests of Doom, no idea if they are any good. There are some pretty good ones in QoD. "Ra's Evil Grin" and "Sewers of the Underguild" are excellent and gauged for 11th and 15th level respectively. "Emeralds of Highfang" is recommended for "high level" - I'd estimate 16th-18th level. Bear in mind that modules from Frog God Games are usually more dangerous than those published by WotC, so bumping any of these up another level or two wouldn't be excessive.

I wouldn't even give them much credit for that 4/8 part. They had GRRM's work to go off of. Once they ran out of that, they exposed themselves as hacks.
  • 04:19 PM - Mallus quoted Zardnaar in post Star Trek Discovery not getting any better I fear.
Stick with Voyager or switch to TNG season 1? The only thing really worth watching in TNG season 1 is the opener, "Encounter at Farpoint". No, make that 'required viewing' for the way it bookends the series finale "All Good Things", which is one of TNG's best episodes. Here's the thing about Voyager: it has some excellent episodes, but also some of the worst in the franchise. If I were starting cold with VOY, I'd watch the first few eipsodes to get a handle on the characters and premise, then read a few 'top 10/best of' lists and run through those.
  • 08:38 AM - GreyLord quoted Zardnaar in post Star Trek Discovery not getting any better I fear.
Stick with Voyager or switch to TNG season 1? I like Voyager, but TNG is better. Voyager had a stellar pilot and than season 1 was dross (as in very boring). It picks up a LOT in season 4. However, TNG I feel is better in all ways.
  • 08:36 AM - GreyLord quoted Zardnaar in post Star Wars: Rian Johnson Out?
Rian is the director for The Last Jedi. Anyway Disney has mapped out their release plans through to 2026. There is only one Star Wars trilogy and Iger (head of Disney) confirmed that D&D from Game of Thrones will be doing it. Now Disney announced Rian was getting his own trilogy. But they have been quiet on that. So have they basically dumped Rian? At best his trilogy has been pushed back past 2026 a full decade after TLJ. Realistically I doubt that will be the case. Other options are he is involved in some capacity with the new trilogy or he gets a TV role on Disney's new channel. But for live action big budget trilogy he seems gone burger. He already stated that his trilogy will be released on Disney+ rather than theater. In that light, it would depend on whether they are referring only to movies released in the theater, or also including movies on Disney's new streaming service.
  • 04:40 AM - AbdulAlhazred quoted Zardnaar in post In Defense of 4E - a New Campaign Perspective
The odds of a hill giant having 9 hp legitimately in 1E are very remote. I assume you assigned the hp rather than rolled. 'legitimately'? Show me the place where AD&D says DMs have to roll hit dice. AD&D allows for a wide range of values for the hit points of creatures, it is that simple. That's a very very weak hill giant. Sure the occasional one like that is understandable but the minion rules are silly and gamist because it implies there are alot of them like that. World's squishiest giant sure why not if it's a one off or rare. The minion rules imply nothing. If you want a lot of them, then you have them. But again, these aren't 'weak monsters', they are simply RELATIVELY weak compared to the party, and that weakness is being expressed in terms of hit points instead of AC or other defenses, etc. Given that D&D explicitly describes hit points as abstract this is a perfectly viable and sensible alternative. I have simply proven that a similar technique is available to DMs...

  • 06:58 PM - Tony Vargas quoted Zardnaar in post In Defense of 4E - a New Campaign Perspective
Add in powers that don't refer to spells and you've got a lot of what 4e monsters have, except 5e monsters are still lacking really good design in my book. Partly a problem with 5e's combat system... Anyway, you can do a few different minion variants. Giving them a higher than 1 point kill threshold is not bad, say 1 point plus 3/5 levels rounded down, roughly. It tends to make it possible for higher level ones to survive the very most casual types of auto damage, but doesn't really make them tough enough to take a direct hit. The key thing 4e minions had that 5e very-low-level monsters lack is the ability to survive /making/ a save. ;) But for that 5e BA delivers: a much-lower-level monster can still hit occasional, the damage it does may be trivial, and your minimum damage may well kill it when you do hit - so easy to deal with, but its inclusion isn't meaningless. In 4e, minions had a specific rule: a missed attack never damages a minion, since all AEs were still attacks (saves were...
  • 11:44 AM - Imaculata quoted Zardnaar in post GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8--Final Run-- Part 5
I liked having Joffrey around and loved to hate him. Ramsay was just cartoon evil, and what he did to Sansa wasn't in the books and wasn't needed, didn't do anything to advance the plot etc. Joffrey and Tywin being killed was around where the show started heading down hill imho. What made Joffrey great was probably his age. Ramsay's book counter part is every bit as evil as the one on the show. But some of his acts were switched from a character not featured on the show, to one that is; Sansa. The show indeed struggles a lot around season 5. The book on which it is based, Feast for Crows, struggles about just as much (although they also throw in some Dance with Dragons). There's a lot of aimless floundering about in Dorne with new characters that no one really cares about, and the main cast is mostly abscent. And the ironborne aren't very interesting either, though I feel the show did both a disservice.

That's probably more on you. People are starting to identify people they don't like or disagree with as evil. Prince William and Harry I would probably skew more towards good alignment, their grandmother the Queen LN I could buy. I think it's more that LNs identify more with traditional monarchical authority and the prince-saviour archetype, rather than anything about Prince William's own personality.
  • 04:35 AM - hawkeyefan quoted Zardnaar in post GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8--Final Run-- Part 5
Dragons make sense in the context of their world. Dragons aren't invincible, see season 6 iirc but it's jarring to see one shot down and then in the next episode they can't hit one to literally save their lives. More of a pacing issue, problem they have had since season 7. Sure dragons make sense in the fictional context. And so would weapons designed to combat dragons. Especially when those weapons are designed by a mad scientist capable of creating flesh golems and with the full resources of the crown in a world where extraordinary materials exist.

Shooting a Dragon down in the air at hundreds of metres range is fairly implausible Read that sentence again slowly and realise you are discussing DRAGONS

Pathfinder uses Osirion for Egypt I use Nithian. Asgardian for Norse and Olympian for Greek works well. Olympian is flawed for the Greeks, because only the main ruling Council are Olympians, most Greco-Roman Gods aren't Olympians. Hestia, Janus, Silvanus, Pan, Roma, Pax, Nike, Leta, Promeathus, Hades, Persphone, the Titans, the Charities, Hourai, Muses, Hecate, Proteus, The Fates, Eros, Flora, the Primordial Gods like Chaos, Nyx, Lucifer (not to be confused with the Christian Devil), Hemera, Eberus, Tartarus, Typhon, Gaia, Uranus, Morpheaus, Thantos, ect... This is why, Scion 2e went with Theoi instead.

Not that bad a price. If you bought the PDFs of Kingmaker individually it's more than $50 iirc. The 2012 Runelords hardback is $60. The pdf is $42. https://paizo.com/riseOfTheRunelords

Not that bad a price. If you bought the PDFs of Kingmaker individually it's more than $50 iirc. I assume that includes the 5E conversion. It's not hard to run Kingmaker 5E anyway. It lacks a lot of later Pathfinder splat material. No, it does not include any 5E material: the PDF version for PF2 is $50, the print is $80, and the 5E conversion material is a $35 add-on product in print and PDF (as is the $35 Pathfinder 1 conversion product). So $85, minimum, to get this AP in 5E or PF1.

My character is a Warlock with the healer feat. It has 7 cantrips of which 2 deal damage, plus Guidance (Pact of the Tome). Healer feat via variant human plus it can heal a bit and knows the cure spell. Its charismatic, SAD, and is great at social stuff and utility and has a few rituals. Can't really buff but its effective a good damage archer build with a lot of utility via rituals, cantrips, healer feat, guidance. Its a better archer than an actual archer as I use hex as well. You really didn't have that *spark* that distinguishes great bards (ie the ...

I watched Pacific Rim and enjoyed it. How does that fit on your monster movie thing. Otherwise I basically agree with your post. I quite enjoyed the 1st one. Giant mecha vs giant monsters. DVD on the shelf. :) PR:II? Nope. Same concept, and I've certainly enjoyed even worse, but II was just missing something. Not really a monster movie IMO though. When I say monster movie, think of things like The Meg, Sharktopus, Deep Rising, etc. Maybe some werewolves & such.
