That makes sense. Simultaneous attacks create the possibility of both riders being unseated on the same run. If this is a contest similar in style to medieval jousting I'd include opportunities for modifiers based on 'smack talking' and bike damages since bikes obviously Spin Out if the driver is knocked from the seat. Some maintenance would have to take place between runs. Maybe use a table...

Opponents use Driving skills for Initiative rolls, modified by Acceleration. Make attack rolls as normal; damage is non-lethal, except in cases of Critical hits. When a rider is hit he must make a STR check vs. a ROUTINE + Damage difficulty. Failing the check unseats the rider, gaining an additional 1d6 non-lethal damage. Of course, using the Called Shot options, a rider may forego a damaging...

Let's not forget the WOIN Monster Creator. This has been a major help in designing a good starting point for new creatures and NPCs. I have it bookmarked and use it often. As for supporting material, I have at least 3 projects in the pipeline for N.O.W., 2 for O.L.D., and 2 for N.E.W. under my Orbital Decay brand. Once I finish 2...

Thank you so much M3woods, really pushing us all to get WOIN known and it really works when you have such an active community here on Enworld. Could I get the Starship Recognition Manual please, so much material in there that is so useful, and I'll be sure to leave a review for it too afterwards :)

M3woods. I can see a lot of merit in coming up with rules for big space combats. I wish you well in bringing it to fruition.

... no means a deal-breaker. It does mean for some setting assumptions, though. Maybe making those psionic for standard sci-fi settings, and magic for those with magic? Technomages are, of course, a great sci-fantasy trope, and there's always room for them! Some formatting issues, but the best so far in that regard. @hardvice - I like these a lot. Psionic ewoks! Similar formatting issues as above. I love the captivating saliva. It looks like a race that could easily be used in any setting. @llothos - love the concept! Formatting issues, like everybody else. Some of the items seem to be just notes and would need to be rewritten to put in, say, a book. How is the charging up ability of natural weapons different to the way everyone can pay 2d6 for +1d6 damage anyway? Water and cold weakness; the way it's phrased is odd - the correct phrasing would be "Vulnerable 2d6 (water/cold)". I like the steam effect of taking cold damage, though would that not be heat damage rather than acid? @M3woods - Best formatting so far (though skills should be lower case). The Cherran Trigger is interesting. I haven't playtested it, but I do wonder if the countdown plus the END checks plus the status track might be a bit too much to track? It's a hard decision. @M3woods Mattari is probably the most solid entry in terms of rules and formatting; @llothos' lava race is conceptual appealing, but the entry formatting and rules aren't as solid as the former. I love the effort @btccg went to for description. I'm trying to balance concept and solid writing/formatting/rules. My heart wants to choose the Lavos, my head says that the Mattari is the most solid entry. Because I feel that solid writing for a system is the hardest part of game writing, I'm going to go with my head and award it to @M3woods for his Mattari, but I want to give a solid thumbs up to @llothos' Lavos with a note that with some tidying up on format, and a little tightening of the rules, that would probably have run away with the...

  • 09:32 PM - knikpiw quoted M3woods in post New to WOIN and I have a couple of questions.
Generally, the poison bite attack targets vital defense, but I consider them as having two different effects. At my table it takes an attack vs MELEE to hit with the bite attack. If the attack is successful, on the next round, the attack is rolled a second time against VITAL. On a successful hit, the opponent gains a 1st degree Poisoned Condition (or 2nd degree, if the attack Crits.). Poison would be a trait added onto an attack, like a bite is Piercing and Poison (which can be done as an upgrade) and the victim is only moved on the status track when hit with a Critical, therefore Vital defence never comes into the equation.

I'm reading up on the West Marches campaign style. It might be an interesting experiment for a N.E.W. Game. I'll post my notes here shortly. It would be really interesting to not only try it as an experiment, but then prepare an EONS article or community PDF are: experiences running a West Marches game for WOIN.

I'd be interested depending on play time. I'm on the East Coast so three hours in the future. Excellent. I do some gaming with friends on the East Coast, so should be do-able. Ping me and let me know what time blocks might work for your schedule.

[B]Disreputable Heritage. The Pariah is met with a general sense of distrust despite the fact there's no legitimate reason to feel such. They gain a +1d6 bonus to all CHA checks related to Intimidating their fellow [Race/Species]. The outcasts are just victims of a social stigma not monsters. ;)

  • 08:41 PM - Morrus quoted M3woods in post It's the official WOIN character builder!
Hey, @Morrus, what does the php spreadsheet look like? I have a lot of the racial, career, and exploit data typed into an excel spreadsheet. Would you be able to use that easily? You can see the spreadsheets via the links in the top right of the character builder. They have to be formatted exactly like that, or the code canít read it. (edit - by which I mean columns can be added on the right end of any of those tables, but the existing columns have to remain in the exact order they are - so the universal exploits could have a second column added with the exploit text)

  • 04:20 PM - A Lone Chocobo quoted M3woods in post [WION] A couple of questions
I'm not overly familiar with 7th Sea but I consider myself slightly versed in WOIN. In my opinion, the beauty of WOIN is its species/career system for character design. Between those two elements nearly any other setting can be realized when you consider what the narrative of the thing looks like. From what I've managed to glean from the little I can find online Fate Magic is only available to royal Vordacce females and practioners are called Sorte Strega. So, you have a heritage (Vordacce), an Origin (Noble), and a Career (Sorte Strega, or Fate Witch). Any one of those might list an exploit called Secrets of Fate, with appropriate prerequistes (noble-borne, Vordacce, Female.) The skill used to access this secret might simply be called Weaving. And, since Fate is very similar to Luck, you could do as dekrass suggests and require LUCK to be tied to the use of Fate Magic. Lashes might represent the depletion of one's own pool of Luck. Secrets of Fate. You gain the Secrets of Fate, allowing yo...

  • 12:45 AM - Brian I quoted M3woods in post The Holds of Vendalyr Out Now For WOIN
Sorry, no Felan martial arts. Their's is a game of cunning subterfuge and manipulative social one-upmanship. I've been playing with some new social mechanics. I hope they work out because they really define the Felans, in my mind. I am intrigued. :) Sounds like itíll be as different from Vendalyr as Boria, which is as it should be. I assume Spartans probably have a few martial arts ... anyway, I distress. Pleased with Vendalyr (having finished the read between last night and today).

Another one photoshopped. Here's Wutziss, an obnoxious Android trader who is fascinated by life.94382 I ordered my lizardfolk barbarian (I've made a lot more characters on there), it is a bit pricey, and ordering physical does take a while, but their good quality, and if you have access to a nice 3D printer, you can cut both those issues down by a considerable margin.

  • 12:32 AM - Shadow88 quoted M3woods in post [WOIN] Making a Steampunk Wuxia setting, any sources you can recommend?
And I've got the bare bone beginnings of an airship construction system somewhere around here. I designed it to match the starship construction rules from NEW. I'll scrounge it up and see how much needs doing to make it complete enough for use. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using EN World mobile app That sounds pretty cool. Was still debating whether to have airships in this or not but I'm sure someone could get some use out of that.

  • 04:28 AM - DesertDogSledder quoted M3woods in post [WOIN] WOIN Character Assistant, a character creation tool
I'm guessing it's not feasible at the moment but will future updates allow custom races and careers to be added? It would certainly simplify some of my current projects. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using EN World mobile app Believe it or not, there is actually support for custom races, homeworlds, exploits, and careers! It's (slightly) more intuitive with the unpackaged code--there's a "custom" folder that has templates that show you what format to write your custom content in. I may need to go back to the drawing board to see how to integrate it with the all-in-one executable... or just go with a different packaging method. Let me chew on it for a bit. Fear not, though, the thing you seek is closer than you think. :)
  • 03:33 AM - DesertDogSledder quoted M3woods in post [WOIN] WOIN Character Assistant, a character creation tool
This is awesome. Thanks for the work you've put into this. Just a note, I got the above error when trying to edit the exploit for the psi-cop career. Thought you'd like to be informed. I do appreciate any bug reports. :) (That's why I still show the ugly console window, to be honest!) I think this is something that Morrus was running into as well! I'm very fortunate that I managed to reproduce it on my system. I didn't catch it before because things work when you add a fresh career. If at any time you edit the career and click OK in that dialog, the set career dialog broke even if you didn't change the career to a different one. I've fixed this and uploaded the new Windows binary if you want to grab it: Happy WOINing!

  • 08:37 PM - DesertDogSledder quoted M3woods in post [WOIN] WOIN Character Assistant, a character creation tool
I'm done trying. I'm sure it's something I'm overlooking but I'm tired of trying to figure out how to install wxpython and that seems to be the issue. If you're on Windows, try out the .exe package that's attached to the most current release here: This should allow you to run the program without worrying about dependencies. :) (Sorry Mac users, mine got delayed. Hopefully standalone binaries are coming for Mac very soon!)
  • 01:26 PM - DesertDogSledder quoted M3woods in post [WOIN] WOIN Character Assistant, a character creation tool
Agh! Somebody help. I can't get this to work. I keep getting a popup stating there's no program associated. It was working fine and then I grabbed the latest version and now nothing. I've uninstalled all instances of python-related things. Looks like my problem is wxpython; I can't figure out how to install that. What am I missing? Hey M3woods! I was doing some work last night and accidentally broke the program (temporarily). The updates were coming in fast and furious--you might have gotten one of my broken ones. :( Could you try updating again and seeing if you get the same issues? On a related note, the updates over the past several hours pertained to the following: Save prompt now resembles something you'd see in a proper program The exploit dialog for careers now shows you a snapshot of the character's stats at that point in the character's career, allowing you to make more informed decisions of what exploits you can take The exploit dialog for adding misc exploits (exploit tab) shows you total stats so you can make similarly informed decisions on what you can take there.

  • 05:34 AM - Khaalis quoted M3woods in post Options for Supernatural Attributes?
It seems what your shooting for is shifting the benchmarks. What might be strenuous for a human may merely be difficult for a giant. This is largely what I was going for, though I do think there should be a damage difference as well which I have to figure out how best to apply. So, maybe give the giant a STR related exploit. Giant Strength. Giants are known for their great strength. All STR related tests are decreased by two shifts on the Difficulty Benchmark table. This would, essentially, make a Difficult [16] task a Routine [10] task for giants. It's the equivalent of a 2d6 bonus to the STR score. This works very well. for the difference in STR-based benchmarks. Next questions - Is there any form of guide on how to create exploits? Or is it currently guestimating based on existing exploits?
