The Lighting of the Death

Buntleby proceeds to roll out several large maps of Sharn, a planar orrerry, two timelines of world history, and his notes, then proceeds (somewhat apologetically) to lecture at great length.

He reminds everyone about Xoriat and its erratic period.
He then goes on to suggest that people's dreams create small planes in the ether with their own periods.
Buntleby goes on to demonstrate that these dreamplanes have their own periods and orientations, some of which may come into intersection or be collinear in four-dimensional planar space with Xoriat. He suggests that these people become "gates" to Xoriat when they sleep if their dream planes coexist at the same location with Xoriat.

"The dream period and orientation, of course, is a function of the person's mental state and is thus affected by behavioral, medical, and sociocultural status"

Buntleby then goes on to suggest that various groups all work to exploit this principle in their own way.
The Cult of the Dragon below, for example, sponsors various popular performance artists whose music create dreamscapes favorable to entering Xoriat. He lays considerable influence on some people named KISS, which he swears up and down stands for "Knights in Siberys' Service".
He further suggests that Breland has been using necromancy to preserve, animate, and keep in the appropriate dream state the brains of people particularly hostile to Xoriat, using these dreamscapes as "Fence posts" to hedge Xoriat out.
(In nervous whispers he suggests that when Breland finds people particularly hostile to Xoriat they take care to harvest their brains before those people change their minds. Harvesting does not sound terribly consensual.)

He winds up explaining that the descendants of Tirra Marron (who faked her leap into the Silver Flame, survived, and had many children) are especially good for this, that the Brelish government is harvesting them preferentially, and that this is one of the secret causes of the Great War."

He is about to start on "The Cyre Connection" when there is a knock on the door. Without waiting for an answer, a halfling walks in bearing the arms of the House of Healing on his coat.

"Mr. Buntleby! There you are! We've been very worried about you at the Sanatarium."
Buntleby explains that he's enjoyed his time at the Sanatarium and that he has no criticism of the way they do their duty, but that he needs to speak to these clever adventurers about holding off a Xoriat/Eberron singularity without unduly killing Tira Mirron's secret descendants. The man in the white coat rolls his eyes.
"Mr. Buntleby, we've been over this before! You've used an improper term in the third line of your dreamscape collinearity proof and these poor people will never understand it?"
"What!?!" cries Buntleby, and begins looking back over some papers and muttering.
Both looking and muttering are cut short as the man in white pulls a sap out of his pocket and knocks Buntleby out.

"Gentlemen, ladies, please excuse this unseemly violence." he explains as two white-coated orderlies gently roll Buntleby onto a stretcher and carry him out to a coach.

He produces papers that identify him as Cornelius Jorasco, licensed and accredited healer.
"Mr. Buntleby is suffering from paranoid delusions. Ordinarily, of course, we'd be much more gentle with our patients, but Mr. Buntleby has a real mania about this idea and becomes manaically violent when his delusions is challenged."
He looks you over carefully. "I'm glad none of you were hurt. We of house Vatch take our long-term care responsibilities very seriously and regret that Mr. Buntleby's furlough from treatment inconvenienced you. Please accept this as a token of our apologies."
Cornelius proceeds to stamp and sign orders for each of you to recieve 50 gp from House Vatch funds, redeemable at any Kundarak office.

"Thank you for your time gentleman and lady. I'll show you out as I lock up."

Cornelius politely but firmly ushers you out, locks the door behind you, and puts the key in his pocket.
"We're ready to go here, sir." he courteously addresses the brown-coated driver.
The driver stops looking at Zook, touches his slouch hat, and clucks at the phantasmal horses.
The carriage departs in a swirl of magic: Cornelis can be seen massaging Buntleby's head and singing soothingly:

Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "i love you"
Birds singin' in the sycamore tree
Dream a little dream of me

Thus endeth the adventure. Sorry.

Reveka stood by wordlessly as the last act of this particular drama played out. She did not even begin to understand all of it- perhaps the scholars would be able to make sense of it. It certainly was nothing like the stories that she had heard back home.

No matter, though. There was money, and she felt confident that she could find her way back to the tavern where all of this had begun...
