Watchmen: the music

I was watching TV today and saw a commercial for Watchmen, a movie whose release I'm eagerly awaiting. So I was paying intense scrutiny to what was being presented.

I noticed quite quickly that I recognized the theme music that underlay most of the commercial- the section before it transitioned into Muse's Take a Bow came from Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out Of Balance.

I was just wondering if anyone was aware of other movies that have used music written for other movies.

This happens all the time in trailers.

Up until now, I've never heard music expressly written for one movie show up in anything attached to another movie, unless the first one is somehow part of the second one (like, its on in the background of a scene).

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Cool- thanks for the education and the link!

Its funny- of the ones they listed, I've only seen 2 of the movies (Alien and Stargate) but I've never noticed the use of their music for other films before.

I guess I'll have to pay a little more attention in the future.

Well, it doesn't really happen in the movies themselves (unless it's James Horner ), just the trailers.

I know I've heard "In the House - In a Heartbeat" from 28 Days Later in a couple trailers. I think the recent CGI Beowulf was one.

Clint Mansell's "Lux Aeterna" from Requiem for a Dream gets used all the time in other movie trailers. In fact, a special version of it was recorded for the Two Towers (called "Requiem for a Tower").
