After a short ritual to spread the inner vitality reserves of the group, Gil feels the poison and sickness almost fully subside. Want to test that new sparkly trinket against whatever seems to be holding us in this malevolent oubliette? Gil holds his orb out, and points to Lilli's. He turns toward Bob as well, Try to stay close, and if you get a chance to use the knife against our captor, do. Wouldn't it be great to tell your friends you fought a demon?! [sblock=Insight 16] roll lookup Gil's enthusiasm is insincere. He is pretending to be excited and doesn't feel optimistic.[/sblock]

OOC: Ready to go, looking forward to whatever comes next.

Lilli closes her left eye, theatrically holds the crystal up to her right and pretends to peer through it at Gil. She can't see much of him, but she knows that though her eye's shape is somewhat distorted, it is also magnified to fill much of the orb.

"If I get the chance, its image is going to be captured right in here."

The stairs lead to a rough-hewn, winding passage. It is wide enough for two two walk abreast comfortably, and the roof is only occasionally low enough to need to duck. In places it is interrupted by more short flights of steps, up or down.

Judging by gouges in the walls, the passage twists and changes level so much because it was following a seam of ore. The stairs must have been added later - miners wouldn't take the time to add such conveniences, they would just leave the floor sloping.

Eventually you reach a side passage. A flight of steps leads downwards to your left, and you can hear the sound of rushing water from below. The passage also continues straight ahead into darkness.

[sblock=waste of a twenty] dungeoneering: 1d20 → [20] = (20) Roll Lookup [/sblock]

Artemis points out the passage likely followed an ore seam through the rock. The steps would not have been made during the mining and must have been put in later.

He moves slightly toward the side passage, silently indicating that option and checking if group is in agreement.

Likely the passage is blocked by water. I agree it's worth checking it though.

[sblock=OOC]Since nobody else has weighed in, I'll assume you follow Artemis' lead.[/sblock]

Sure enough, the passage is blocked by water - after a short flight of steps downwards, it levels out into a tunnel that ends abruptly at a precipice. A river (almost certainly the same one Karma disappeared into) rushes past dozens of feet below.

An arm's length in front of the tunnel mouth, water tumbles from an unseen opening overhead and showers into the river below. Your light is reflected back in myriad glitters from the droplets of water, but strangely - the outermost reflections are cool silver, but those towards the center have a red-orange glow that makes the waterfall look like it has a core of fire.

Gil watches Shale for a moment before asking, What are you looking for? when Shale describes his quarry, Gil summons a mage hand, and leads a piece of his rope into the center of the falls with it. Should I pull it back out or?
