[h=2]FATE Dice[/h]
The Dresden Files RPG uses FATE dice. These dice have two sides with a +, two sides with a -, and two blank sides. A typical role is 4df (4 fate dice). Each + is +1, each - is -1 and each blank is no modifier. Add up the dice to get the result and apply it to the skill you are rolling for.

When rolling a dice on ENWorld, it is not editable. Include these notes in the description of your roll:
  • A very short description of why you are rolling
  • The skill you are rolling including its location on the Ladder
  • The shifts that you are putting into a spell
It is important to include this information so the GM knows that are aren't altering any of these based on the outcome of the roll. For example, if you don't write the number of shifts of the power you are trying to control, then it is impossible to know if you altered the shifts downward for a bad roll. I don't expect anyone would do that, but it is important that the validity of a roll is never in question.

[h=4]Extra Shifts[/h]
Beating a difficulty with a die roll enough can get you certain benefits. Think of how you could do something better when you beat a roll by one or more, and offer suggestions on how that extra bit of effort can help you. If you don't make any suggestions, the GM might not notice and you might not benefit from the extra shifts. If the GM does notice, he'll add some extra benefit for you, though.
