The door pushes open with a little effort, opening into a large round room.

This circular area is cobbled with cracked granite, upon which sprawl the bodies of four goblins, apparently slain in combat. One corpse stands with its back against the western wall, the spear that killed it still skewering it and holding it upright. Two wooden doors lead from this area, one to the Northwest and one to the southwest. A hollow tower of loose masonry reaches thirty feet into the air, but the intervening floors and stairs are gone, except for a couple of crumbled ledges.

Kuhl looks down the pit, ignoring the bickering.

"The pit has not been emptied. That tells us something; this place is not well monitored. Though it may have caught one from the expedition, as it did that goblin, it seems not to have caught them all. I suggest we proceed."

Kuhl watches the wizard draw his bow at the rat. Target practice? It's hard to tell.

"But if you wish to go down, I will hold the rope for you." He looks to see if there are any takers. If there are none, he proceeds carefully towards the door, avoiding the pivot.

He looks to the door for signs of forced entry.

Ara, High Elf Wizard

OOC: Given that we are not in per round combat and it makes sense to stack them together, here is what Ara is doing for about the next minute or so.
1:Action: Investigate Pit looking for an entrance/exit. Move: Cross Pit and go through the door.
2:Action: Examine the ledges looking for hidden creatures and or openings.
3:Action: Dismiss Who
4:Action: Summon Who at Top of the chamber (30' from Ara)
5:Action: Who scans the ledges from the top of the chamber. If Who sees nothing, he will settle on the highest ledge.

Ara Looks for entrance/exit to pit: 1D20+5 = [13]+5 = 18

Ara examines ledges: 1D20+2 = [7]+2 = 9

Who stealth: 1D20+3 = [14]+3 = 17

Who looks and listens for anything of interest on the ledges: 2D20.HIGH(1)+3 = [9, 15]+3 = 18

Elven tactical maxim: "Avoid advancing into a position from which you cannot retreat."

"Kuhl, I thank you for the offer," Ara replies with warmth in his voice "but it appears that we are moving on."

As Ara follows the party, across the crosswalk, he looks carefully at the Pit and in particular where the Giant Rat goes(18). Ara thinks "The rat is still alive in the Pit, it needs a source of water and regular food. So, it is likely that the rat can get in and out and where a giant rat can go, a goblin may be able to follow."

As Ara steps into the large circular chamber, his first thought is "what a fantastic place for an ambush. Archers on the ledges above, something in the pit to knock out the catwalk and fighters ready to attack through either or both doors. Even the dead bodies to lure the group into thinking that the area is not well patrolled." Ara scans the ledges looking for any signs of creatures hiding above(9).

Satisfied that there are no attackers, Ara mentally dismisses Who and then re-summons him at the top of the chamber. Who reappears at the top of the chamber, silently gliding as he examines the ledges and overall chamber with his keen eyesight and hearing(18). Once comfortable that there is no danger lurking on the ledges and no openings onto the ledges, Who lands on the top most ledge.

Ara looks at the door and silently curses "Wedges. How could I have forgotten to bring door wedges, and a hammer. I am getting sloppy."

OOC: Sorry; it seems I cross-posted with Charwoman this morning; all of my stuff would go before that, or is retroactively canceled.

Kuhl walks into the room, looking at the bodies. Are the pockets turned inside-out (adventurers!)?

"This way first?" asks Kuhl, pointing to the Southwest.

GM: The pit was smooth stone walls, bones are goblin's bones, the rat and the fresher goblin corpse look emaciated as if they were trapped and starving. The trap closes itself a little after you all enter the round room.

The ledges are particularly boring, and are not wide enough for a small or medium size creature to support themselves on.

You do not find any indication of traps on the doors. The dust around the southwest door indicates little activity passes through it. The northwest door is recently used. You also notice a brick in the south wall that is just slightly askew.

Ara, High Elf Wizard 1

After Edgar points it out, Ara notices the brick in the south wall that is slightly askew.

Eager to help out and make up for his mistake with Tordak's name, Ara asks "Would you like me to check out the brick?". Assuming that no one objects, Ara begins investigating the brick. In the course of his investigation, Ara utters a few words and a gesture and a spectral hand appears. Ara uses the hand to gently pry and prod the brick.

OOC: Ara investigating brick in the South Wall.: 1D20+5 = [6]+5 = 11

Note Mage Hand - max 10 pounds of force.

The brick moves easily as you pry it. There is a click as a needle pokes out from behind it, you have set off a trap but because of the Mage Hand, no one is hurt. You push on the brick and and the wall next to it swings open, revealing an small 10' by 10' room.

This pocket chamber is damp and cold. The skeletons of three long-dead archers slump against rubble-filled arrow slits along the east and south wall.
