Legend
The Infiltrators rest for an hour, pondering the strange crystal formations (now mostly crushed) and the ancient elven vessel half-buried in the wall of the cavern.

Time to move on.

Feeling better, Mord stood and looked around. "We should probably have someone with good eyes to lead the way. I'd rather not be surprised. By whatever is in the next cavern."

Refreshed, SnorLoska gathers his gear and takes the lead. Come on, it's time to find the last idol, he says and walks past the buried ship and towards the tunnel to the east. The next cavern would presumable host the living tree, if the wizards words meant anything. Better be careful, he thinks.
SnorLoska walks on, keeping a watchful eye on the cavern ceiling for perched tentacle things, as the rest of the group scrambles to keep up.

Legend
The Grotto

Eko flew ahead and Lorenn could see through her bat's sight the grotto - a large deep pit of a cavern, with a little steep trail leading down from where SnorLoska began to descend. Moist, it smelled like old rot. High on the vaulted black-rock ceiling, sure enough, two tentacled stalactites hung, their tentacles drooping lazily. Across the 'valley' of the cavern, another twisting path led back up toward another tunnel. To the right, and down at the bottom, a wet tunnel went downward toward the unknown. The mouth of that tunnel was covered in softly glowing, hanging moss.

Scattered around the dirt floor of the valley were several trees in various conditions: Some were merely stumps. Others, missing limbs, or split down the trunk. The "freshest" looking one had no leaves, and appeared to be so old as to be petrified.

Zander brings up the rear javelin in hand, a little more confidence in his steps. "Made it this far," he thinks to himself. "Maybe I'll get out of all this in one piece after all."

(and since the roll is worse, edit)

Taking his rear guard duty seriously Zander looks back and stares as far as the odd darkvision will allow. All it does though is give him a slight headache and make his eyes water.

OOC: Rear guard passive perception 10
so he'll look back 60' from time to time

As he looks down on the grotto, Mord picks out the likely source of the story he'd been told. As they move down the path, he quietly pulls out a vial of alchemist's fire and considers their options. Setting a blaze would probably draw too much attention, not to mention likely impede their paths. But it might make for a good escape plan. As they travel, he makes sure to quietly explain the creatures natural fear of fire and method used to bypass it to the others. (In case anyone missed that bit.)

So one of these trees is still living... SnorLoska ponders. Maybe we should talk to him first... he might help us defeat his tormentors.
SnorLoska fishes out a fresh torch from his backpack. What?! he says as the rest of the group stares at him. If talking doesn't help, fire will! Better come prepared...

Legend
As you approach the petrified old tree, it twists about revealing a withered old face.

"Hrrruummn. Hrraw. Leave me be, little ones. I have seen enough of your pain. Take you fires away from here. Begone with you!"
