Merin says, "The river is too difficult to cross, let's stay on our side. It's a short enough distance to be able to communicate with whomever approaches. Let's just stand here and wait for them. If they are hostile, we are well within bow range, and most of us can project Way at least three paces or so. I don't think we're in any immediate danger by just standing our ground."

Tor adds, "If we need to, we can always run. It's not like they'd be able to follow us. Plus, all of this is assuming they're hostile."

San-Bolo nod together and Sannit says, "Fine. We'll wait." They sit and make themselves comfortable, but still keep their weapons close. "I guess we shouldn't look like we're about to jump them though."
Sannit pulls out a piece of the venison and takes a bite.

Bolo calls Turtle over and he lays down beside her and puts his head in her lap. "How could anyone be afraid of you?" she asks him and scratches his wide head.

Saemund looks uncomfortably in the direction of the noise. His time with the Seekers having made him more aware of the dangers in the world. He has grown to trust only the men and women near him. Everyone else is suspect. He reaches out in the opposite direction, searching for life before allowing himself to relax with the others. Taking a cue from Sannit he takes a piece of venison, but chews silently wondering to himself...

~Could I bond a bird? It would be useful to have a sentry when we are out in the open like this. I'll have to remember to ask Merin how that's done.~

Merin says,
"... It's a short enough distance to be able to communicate with whomever approaches..."
Tor adds,
Tellerian Hawke said:
"If we need to, we can always run..."
Sheldon, who is still standing about a pace back from the stream, looks over at Tor incredulously.
"Run!? You are kidding. Right?"

Indigo gathers the pack animals and backs them into the taller grass and has them lie down. It is a bit odd how they appear with only their neck and head visible. Indigo remains standing near them. She has not yet drawn her swords.

Tor chuckles lightly, "Running is a useful skill, especially when you're trying to find a better-covered position in a hurry. And by the way, it's quite a different thing from fleeing."

Merin smiles in amusement, and tells Myth to lie down in the tall grass.

Day 93: A Chance Encounter

Sheldon, who has been further practicing the skill of divination lately, suddenly exclaims, though almost inaudibly,
"That was odd."

A few tics after Sheldon's exclamation, everyone else understands. There is an imminent sense of danger that instantly disappears. It is not something that any of the Seekers have experienced before.

The sound of the approaching people quiets until it can no longer be heard over the sound of the flowing stream. The shadows within the trees hinder visibility but at the moment the opposing party can be seen it appears that they split off and separate themselves over some distance. A central figure clears the trees cautiously looking around. A large red wolf trails beside him.

The man is Feathrin. His coloration is similar to that of Sheldon and Tor. Seeing Turtle, he nods respectfully to Bolo, appearing to become more at ease. He makes a gesture and another man comes forward leading 2 laden burros. The burros are not on a tether. He speaks quietly to them and they go to the stream to drink.

Spiofthest.jpg

The first man makes some gestures without speaking. He emanates intelligence and the Seekers, being equally intelligent determine that he is wanting water for his party, not combat. The leatherwork worn by the 2 visible men appears as intricate and well-made as that of the Seekers. The weaponry, however, is not metallic.

Sannit stands slowly and leaves his spear on the ground. "This looks like a job for the Minister of Diplomacy," he says with a grin. Bolo scoffs at him with a look of disgust. Chuckling at his own joke, Sannit says, "Just keep me covered with your bow. I'm going to try and ask him if he knows where the Maldrog are."

He approaches with a smile and his hands open, showing he wishes to talk, not fight. He will go through a few words in the languages he knows, but if a mutual language is not known he will use hand gestures to ask about the Maldrog, indicating their height, the beards, and the metal in their weapons and armor.

Trusting as always, Bolo stands and has her bow in hand, but does not nock an arrow.

Turtle rolls to his feet too, but stays by Bolo's side.

Both Merin and Tor stand in a relaxed posture, calmly and silently observing the interaction between the Faethrin and Sannit. Tor sheathes his sword and lets his shield hang loosely down. Merin never had a weapon in-hand to begin with.

Myth pokes his head up from the grass, and walks up to beside Merin, sitting complacently next to him, wondering about what the delay is. ~Oh great, more talking.~ is the cat's thought.

Saemund remains standing, he takes a relaxed pose, but rests his hand on the handle of one of the throwing axes strapped upside down to the small of his back.

Day 93: Communicating with the Spiofthest

Trying the languages known to the party, Sannit is unable to find a common tongue by which to converse. His counterpart is intelligent enough to demonstrate some understanding as well as convey back his own information. Unfortunately, not only has he no knowledge of of metal, he would also like to acquire some, apparently in trade for his superior leather work.

As to the Maldrog, he nods when he understands but shrugs in uncertainty. He gestures toward the southeast, behind him, waving about to suggest that they should live over that way, somewhere. He seems to be indicating that his own crew came from over the mountains farther due East.

During the process of this discourse, the man calls others of his clan from cover and they begin to fill water containers. There are 3 men, 4 women, and 2 children. Additionally, there is 1 red wolf, 2 burros, and a leopard. All the Faethrins wave a greeting some speaking it as well. In the nature of the Southroad Seekers, everyone waves in return speaking greetings in the various known languages, not expecting anything of it.

As the greeting in Centrin is spoken, it is returned from cover of the trees. Clearing the cover, is an injured Aedaman, moving slowly and favoring his left hip.

Vadin.jpg

He is definitely Centrin by his appearance. He explains that the Spiofthest found him and helped him, but that the rest of his hunting party was lost in a battle with Da'Roneh. He explains that he is a guard with the Tin Caravan out of Boga City and went out with a hunting party 5 days past. His party and the Da'Roneh were about evenly matched and he gave chase to a fleeing foe. It was a trick. He took and arrow in the hip and fell into a small ravine. Without him, the rest of the party was killed and looted. Had he not fallen into that ravine he likely would have been as well. Unlike the Da'Roneh, the Spiofthest had means to scale the ravine and retrieve him. They helped him and exacted no charge, even though he cannot communicate with them.

Sheldon relays the information in Asylin to make sure everyone fully understands.
