Having bypassed the first beetle on the right flank, leaving it for Sannit and Bolo, Saemund bears in on the trailing bug on his side.

GM: OOC: Lethal Attack: Fury (Collegiate Task) + Lethality (Commercial Task) + Body + Strength + Mind + Knowledge + Combat + Melee + d100 Fury: Affect: Self Effectiveness: Essence + Confluence + Mind + Persona + Collegiate Lethality: Body + Motility + Mind + Knowledge + Commercial Saemund: 45 + 44 + 56 + 95 = 240 Damage: 240 - 55 = 185% * 33 = 61 - 16 (soak) = 45 Body: 10 - 45 = -35: incapacitated Mind: 2 - 35 = -33: unconscious Essence: 10 - 33 = -23: dead

Saemund does indeed liberate the head from the beetle, simultaneously freeing that acrid odor and its debilitating effect.

GM: Beetle: 52 + 88 = 140 Resist: 37 + 96 = 133 Damage: 140 - 133 = 7% * 20 = 1 Persona: 7 - 1 = 6: insignificant

Saemund shakes his head and wipes his nose, backing away from the insect.

Day 88: Combat, Part 6

Myth, as he is moving around to join Turtle, sees that he is too late. Feeling a bit disappointed he walks over and sits by the bear, wondering why Sannit is just standing there.

GM: After 2 seconds of time had passed, only 1 of the 5 beetles remains alive, and it is the one that spit at Merin. Tor, Sannit, and Sheldon are currently under the effects of Dementia.

The remaining beetle hunches down its head and lift its abdomen in a defensive posture. It appears to be preparing to spit at Merin again. It is, also, still emitting the toxic pheromone. Though the odor is readily detectable, nothing visible can be seen to indicate its presence.

Merin, thinking that perhaps complete immolation will stifle the acrid pheromone, tries to combust the beetle, using a measure of lighter pine to intensify the effect.

Sannit drools.

As these beetles died so easily Bolo trusts Merin to tackle the last one. She sprints to Sannit's side and pulls him back from the beetle carcass.

Seeing the people so engaged, Turtle turns his senses to their surroundings, attempting to detect any more enemies other than the last beetle. If he does not he will take up a defensive posture around Bolo.

Saemund takes his water bladder and soaks the front of his silk hauberk and lifts it over his nose while keeping his face down. He approached the last beetle from the front attempting to rend his head in twain with a single deadly blow from his axe.

GM: OOC: Combustion: Affect / Range = Confluence + Will = 15 Effectiveness = Essence + Confluence + Mind + Knowledge + Will + Collegiate + Aberrative + Machination + d100 The causes everything in the intended area to burst into flame. This causes harm (loss of Body) to all things in the area of effect. Merin: 69 + 87 = 156 Resist: 42 + 85 = 127 Damage: 156 - 127 = 29% * 15 * 3(lighter pine) = 9 Body: 7 - 9 = -2: incapacitated Mind: 2 - 2 = 0: unconscious

Designating his area of effect to only encompass the one beetle, Merin uses his last piece of lighter pine to augment his effect, cooking the beetle and torching the fresh corn around it. The corn being green, the fire quickly goes out on its own and does not spread. As the incapacitated bug is still whole, no more toxic pheromone is emitted from it.

Sannit turns and looks down at Bolo as he is easily turned away from the beetle, staring at her blankly. Indigo catches Sheldon before he has even wandered a few steps.

GM: OOC: Time = 1 hour[loss / (target Will + target Cohesion + target Discipline)] Tor: Time = 23 minutes Sannit: Time = 50 minutes Sheldon: Time = 21 minutes

GM: Moving away from the acrid beetle aroma, Turtle does not smell or hear anything to indicate further danger.

Seeing that Merin has eliminated the threat of the final Emerald Cutting Beetle, Saemund walk back up toward him and gives the bug one final smack with his axe, just for good measure. He then quickly moves away, not fully trusting his water soaked garment to keep the pheromone at bay.

GM: There are 5 dead beetles. Their carapaces are each about the size of Saemund's torso. Merin and Saemund have insignificant losses of Persona which will return in a few short minutes. Tor, Sannit, and Sheldon will take much longer if allowed to recover naturally.

Seeing that Tor, Sannit, and Sheldon are incapacitated at the moment Saemund checks the pack animals and ties them off, he then attempts to sense any other life forms approaching. He keeps his axe out and scans for threats. He doesn't venture staying close to Merin and the others. He looks at Merin, Is that a common occurrence from beetles?

Holding Sannit by the hand, Bolo answers Saemund, "No, this is something we have not encountered before. The wilds have a way of throwing new dangers at us, but we can cure this with Way." She asks Indigo, "Do we have any herbs that will assist in this healing?" Regardless of whether or not we use any plant supplements, Bolo will initiate a link and use Awareness on the afflicted.

Turtle stands watch.
