D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

Legend
Location: Warehouse Basement; Encounter: Hobgoblin Command Staff

The hobgoblins looked at Dandin in disbelief for only a moment until the one closest to the general said (in Goblin), "Escaped prisoner."

To which, General Shorgg responded, "Kill it."

Two thuggish-looking hobgoblins, (presumably the lowest ranked in the room), moved to murder Dandin, but then one of them spotted Tommi lingering on the stairs and yelled out a warning. Then all of them pulled out various weapons, and the room burst into action.

The ruse had failed; but it had succeeded long enough for the rest of the group to have worked their way forward.

GM: No surprise, but everyone is a lot closer than they otherwise would have been.

Dandin grins suddenly and laughs at the startled greenskins. "Gotcha! Come and get me, if you dare, 'general'!"

And then he ran back into the hallway laughing.

OOC: Viscious Mockery vs the general, then move action into the hallway as far as possible on 25 ft. Reaction of cutting words readied to interfere with any attacks that seem on the verge of missing.

Round 1

Hearing the shouting in Goblin, and seeing Dandin come sprinting right back at them, Angis rushed forward. He threw one of his axes at the first hobgoblin he saw even as he placed his hunter’s mark on him, then drew another axe. The thrown axe caught the hobgoblin in the place where his pauldron met his neck.

Tommi stepped into the room, conscious that he was going to head towards the general. Whatever the obstacle, he could do this. He'd just breathed into the pebbles in his hand, and now had loaded one of them into his sling, he moved steadily, deliberately, towards the large armoured figure.

The hobgoblin saw him, but did not blink. That was not good news for Tommi, of course: he's better when he can sling into the side of the head...

Still, he whipped his stone, and held his breath.

OOC: Sorry was hoping to be able to leverage Sneak Attack.
If he can cast Magic Stone just before this, he'll do so. If he can't, then he will do so as a BOnus action at the start of this turn. Then:

Move: to L13.
Attack: vs. General. [roll0]. If a hit, damage = [roll1] bludgeoning (and, if there is sneak attack for some reason, with an additional [roll2].).

Bonus: (if Magic Stone can be cast before this fight) Hide (stealth) [roll3] using cunning action.

Reaction: if any of the hobgobs end their turn next to him, Tommi can use his reaction (skirmisher) to move an additional 15', with no opportunity attack. He'll do so, moving South.

Legend
Dandin & Tommi vs General Shorgg

Dandin mocked the Hobgoblin General and then ran back down the stairs as his friends Tommi and Angis passed him. The general was a disciplined soldier, and he ignored the halfling as he calmly walked over to a crate where he'd left a large shield, and he patiently strapped it to his arm.

Tommi slipped past the two hobgoblin thugs as they chased Dandin and were intercepted by Angis, and he hid behind a crate. Then he slung a stone at the general and was happy to see it strike his cheek, leaving a terrible welt. The general grunted and looked up sharply, catching his eye. Then one of the hobgoblin captains rushed toward him, and he scrambled over the crate as the Hobgoblin hacked at him with a large sword in two hands.

He managed to avoid the blows, which struck the crate twice behind him as he dove off the other side and rolled to his feet next to the General himself. Tommi was in a tight spot: nearly in the corner of the room and surrounded by two of the most fearsome-looking warriors he had ever seen. He gulped and wondered if he'd see his mother Jynn, or Sherlen Miller, ever again.

GM: If anyone else goes before I get a chance to resolve Angis, the Thugs and Angis are all at the top of the stairs.

Legend
Angis vs Hobgoblin Thugs

As Tommi slipped away from him and Dandin slipped past, Angis took a position at the top of the stairs and threw a hand-axe at a thuggish-looking hobgoblin. The brute was terribly wounded by the axe, but it kept coming at him anyway with a wild look in its eyes.

Angis was swiftly ganged up on by two hobgoblins, and they took turns beating on him with spiked maces.

GM: Enseth & Titus to go.

As Dandin ran down the stairs, Enseth remembered a lesson he learned from of his Master.

He was lying on the laboratory bench while Gwaereth the Gray was repairing his arm after a failed mission.
"But, Master, I had a perfect plan."
"I know, Number Seven. I know. Learn this lesson: No battle plan survive first contact with the enemy. So, if you can't direct the wind, you can always adjust the sails."
"Understood, Master."

Enseth walked into the room and deployed his defenses next to Angis, blocking the Hobgoblins to let the Dwarf retreat if needed.

Then seeing Tommi in danger, he sent ORB3 to help.
