I'm going to go with Leader, on the grounds that I don't see them doing another Arcane Controller so soon, and neither the Striker nor Defender really seem to fit.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if they went with a power source of "Alchemic" or similar, in which case Controller might be a possibility.

I'd say leader. There's already the sorcerer on the way and they can't just pump out arcane controllers without any other power source having one yet. Well, they can, but I hope they won't. Also, wasn't their schtick supposed to be primarily buffing people and their weapons, even if blastificers might have proven more popular? Probably arcane, because I'd expect new power sources to be one of the draws of the future PHBs.

Wishful thinking: in a double feature about arcane leaders, together with the bard.

cheers

Leader seems to be likely. They enhance the party by giving them magical doodads and spontaneous enchantments. Not sure how any craft rules would factor into that...

I'd say Arcane Leader as well, I can very well see a Artificer assisting through giving out items, temporarily enhancing current ones, laying down magical effects with various objects, and finally for straight on damage I could see a Artificer being able to take implements and add large-bonuses to them.

I suspect crafting will take the form of a ritual-esque system, similar to what their doing with Alchemy. Or, some manner of Skill Challenge.

I'm guessing Arcane Leader, but then I thought perhaps a Leader/Defender Hybrid. Leader for Buffing others, but self protection buffs could be used for Defender.

I'd say leader too, but I would not at all be surprised if the sorcerer ended up with a primal or elemental power source instead.

I voted Leader. Another controller would be nice, but with hints that Sorcerer will be an arcane controller.. that's a little too much control. Leader would be great. Some striker bleedthrough to be expected.

leader. But let me be the first so suggest their REAL role will be producing outrage in Eberron fans. Since 4e does not allow you to generate and keep loot, their infusions will be temporary. To avoid the artificer being some weird "crossbow guy" or whatever with infusions, they'll be given a brand new at-will power that has not previously appeared in print. Or their creations will become a "variable power pool" of magical effects. Also, since classes no longer user each other's powers, they will not be able to duplicate other effects, except perhaps as a daily; instead, their new powers will pertain to some kind of specific focus. Given the 4e love of all things elemental, I'm betting on elemental powers.
