What alternate game systems are you trying out if you don't like 4e?

To answer Thanee:

Maybe the OP doesn't like 4e and so wants to know about systems people play that are more on the "different" side from 4e and less on the "similar side".

For people who do like 4e, maybe start a thread of "What alternate game systems are you trying out if you DO like 4e?"

For myself: Pathfinder, looking into the old school movement more and more, and other more "one shot" games (at least for our group) like Paranoia and Og Unearthed.

- WFRP, mostly for the setting. The rules could be a bit more streamlined and magic less restrictive.

- True20, for opposite reasons. It's the system I prefer in theory but it's a bit too bare-boned. It needs more focus, fleshing out and high quality, well playtested supplements. As is, it requires too much preparation, especially for combat heavy games.

I'm also trying/tweaking 3e UA variants.

I talked to them about Pathfinder, and they weren't interested (having played out 3E to the max back then)..unless there are some significant changes to the system...
Apparently the final version is going the opposite way. I see why Paizo wants backward compatibility but I am also looking for a significant departure from 3e. I want a 4e I like, not 3.75.

Another vote for Mutants and Masterminds 2e (plus Warriors and Warlocks).

We're in the process of converting our on-hiatus 3e campaign. Frankly most of the PC's are better modeled using M&M than 3e. A lot of things that are impossible to state mechanically in 3e (and thus were totally hand-waved) are simple to represent in M&M.

Note: I like 4e, but it didn't seem like the right fit for our old campaign, so conversion to it was out of the question.

Right now I'm running a West Marches style campaign using D&D 3.5.

I'm also in a Warhammer 40k: Dark Heresy Campaign.

Some other games I'd like to try (or play again):
Castles & Crusades
Pendragon
D&D 2e
Mage: The Ascension
Middle-Earth Role Playing
Hero Quest!

Just finished a nice Changeling game; now working on my old New Mavarga setting with a variant of the 7th Sea rules.

I have noticed of late that there is an amusing uptick in interest in a type of gaming that I have tried for for years but was never able to interested people in -- Star Trek. Three different people have approached me about this. Of course determining the appropriate system is still open to debate... ;)

Almost done buffing the rough edges off a True20/Omni system/other sources cohesive rewrite.

It's been fun to playtest, and it's fit me and my players needs for dangerous + heroic, that most of us didn't get from our playtests of 4E with others.

Things need to end before I can fit a new game into my group's schedule, but when (if) that happens It'll be a choice between Pathfinder or Fantasy Craft.

I'd really like to play A Song of Ice and Fire, but I don't have the players for it. What version of Traveller are y'all who mentioned it playing?

Swords & Wizardry — A spiffy 0e clone with multiple options for play, allowing for as much or as little streamlining as you like in a rule system. This is currently my preferred system for big magic adventure in the vein of movies like Krull, The Sword & The Sorcerer, Hawk the Slayer, etc. It's like b-movie Hollywood for my table-top.

Powers & Perils — An old Avalon Hill offering that I previously dimissed as too complex and later came back to when I realized that it better served my interests than most games currently on the market. It falls somewhere between Swords & Wizardry and HarnMaster on the verisimiltude spectrum.

Harn Master (3rd Edition) — Like the old ad copy says, Harn Master is as real as you want it to be. Harn Master has a tighter focus on verisimilitude in design than any other fantasy RPG under the sun, which makes it my go to game for 'serious' fantasy and medieval roleplay. Think The Name of the Rose, the Brother Cadfael novels, etc.
