Red Box - monsters included?

Hello all, long time lurker, first time blah blah blah...

I've been playing D&D for almost...er... 30 years. Moldvay Basic set, greatest birthday gift ever. Same story I'm sure a lot of us here have!

I've been playing 4th edition for almost a year now, off and on, for a few friends. We've been enjoying it but what I'm REALLY looking forward to is the changes in the game coming with Essentials.

(Is that in vogue to say? Essentials sounds awesome to me, but I can see a few folks rejecting it trying to steer the philosophies of the game back towards its roots...)

So a question for a DM who is strongly considering a reboot for his next campaign: For those who have seen the Red Box in person, is there a nice selection of monsters inside?

I'm not expecting the expansive collection of monsters that'd be included in the boxed set this one is inspired by (page count and all), but is there at least a couple dozen to choose from, namely for creating adventures from the Red Box alone... at least until the Monster Vault is released later this year. Or is the Red Box simply designed to get a player going and the DM has to turn elsewhere for creating their own adventures?

What? Me Worry?
I haven't seen it in person, but I did see the guys on the Totally Rad Show open a box they got for review. It has player and DM info in it; it's meant to start off a whole group and take them to 2nd or 3rd level (I forget which), as the Holmes edition (the one I started with) did. I can't say how many monsters it contains.

Thank you very much, that was exactly what I needed! And better than I was anticipating.

Haunted Keep... Excellent idea!

The Rodemus family: causing no end of grief since 1980. ;)

So true. One of the first images that always pops in my head when I'm spending way too long daydreaming about dungeons is statues of beautiful warrior maidens rusting at the bottom of a pool...
