Even Newer(er) Tavern Thread: The Hanged Man

A robed human walks into the tavern, and glances around. Spotting the lizardfolk at a table nearby, he makes a beeline for the table.

Toeto, it's good to see you here. Hard to believe it's all over. Especially considering...

Yishim gestures at his golden eyes.

The door to the tavern, which has been seeing much use in the past few days, swings open once more, giving entrance to a gentleman. He wears fine clothing of blue and white, and the sound of jewelry can be heard as he slowly meanders toward the middle of the common room.

"Ahem," he coughs, bringing a dainty hand up to his mouth. When all conversation does not immediately cease, he coughs again, louder.

"Ahem! I beg your pardon." He clasps his hands behind his back and begins.

"I am hear as an official representative of our illustrious Mayor Gunter Brunt. He, and therefore I, seeks "noble and trustworthy" adventurers," he even brings his hands up to display the 'air quotes,' "to determine the whereabouts of two missing militia members, last seen near the newly opened mine of one Kalavar Coppernight."

He begins moving toward an empty table, motioning for a nearby staff member to clean off the remnants of the last occupants with a look of disgust. "If you are interested in offering your assistance for the good of the community - and can tear yourselves away from drowning your "sorrows," he does the air quotes once more, "I shall await the throng here."

He tugs at the bottom of his vest and seats himself, a haughty look of superiority cemented on his face.

Outside the door of the tavern stands a large tree which has a large axe constantly resting in its upper branches. From time to time as the tavern door opens and people enter and exit, it sways towards the opening as if caught in a breeze, but the movement always subsides as the door closes.

The tree appeared overnight, but as it has not changed since, the tavern patrons are getting used to its presence. It now sports a large chalkboard hanging from a lower branch advertising the daily specials.

(Several times over the past few weeks urchins have climbed into the upper branches and tried to steal the axe. They don't do that anymore, ever since the violent thrashing in reaction caused one to fall to the cobbles and break a leg.)

[sblock=OOC]Just establishing that Ironheart's still around, although I haven't really had time to follow the action in the tavern.[/sblock]

Sharpe is in "Sane mode" now and will stay there, more or less, for the rest of the adventure if he gets chosen. So he should do well with those PC who don't want to be with evil characters (bards are very good liars and actors after all ;))

A quest! Sharpe shouts, "accidentally" knocking over a nearby patron and running over to the table.

Thou nobleist official representative! he says, resisting the urge to use air quotes. Allow thine to introduce thineself. I am Sharpe Wellington... No connection to the infamous Wellington family of course, he adds hastily, he needed dragon money after all. Let thine inspire thy group to great and goodie heights! With thine great and holy sword, I shall save thee's missing militia members from the fate of the dragon that holds them! he adds hopefully. Let thouist heart not be troubledist, for thou are seeingist the "nobleist and trustworthyist" bard in the tavern! he says, giving a bow and hoping that the man would not realize that he is the only bard in the tavern.

"Indeed," the representative says; his eyes remain on some imagined spot of dirt under his fingernails. He motions to an empty chair at the table. "I will get into the crux of the matter once we have a few more...people for the job."

"Have a seat, if you must, but do keep your voice down. I have many important issues to ponder." He heaves a melodramatic sigh and goes back to picking at the dirt.

OOC: No worries, Luinnar. I'm sure he'll be on his best behavior. : )

Sharpe takes the seat, but soon starts to fidget around. He was unsure if the boredom of waiting was worth the dragon. At least he could order something to quaff.

What about Colonel Sanders, would he make a good minion for his quest? Sharpe thinks, eying "Harold". No, too greasy. Perhaps that lizard thing? Lizard on a stick did taste good. No, he probably would not get to eat it.

What about the monk? You could always count on them to beat people up on command. You, thouist come joinist us! Sharpe says, motioning to a chair.

Sorry Mewness, I always seem to pick on your characters. That is because they are the more interesting ones! :D

As Yishim approaches, "Harold" stops leaning over in his attempt to read Toeto's book upside-down and settles back in his chair. "Glad you finally decided to have a drink with your old friend Harold," he says to Yishim, with a slight wink. "Sit down, sit down!"

The pile of scrap metal at one particulary dark corner of the Tavern stirs and stands up, approaching the man and quietly releasing some steam. It turns to be not scrap metal, but a finely constructed clockwork man

The tiles on his chest turn and spin until they finally form some words:

The representative of the Mayor stares unbelievingly at the clockwork man, mouth agape, for more than a minute before he stutters, "I.. I do not want them killed. I want them found."

He looks around, confused, as if waiting for someone to jump out and tell him this is just a joke; a scowl crosses his face when he sees that it is not.

"Join the dragon-loving bard, here," he motions to another empty chair, "and I will give you further details when a suitable group is established."

He continues to stare at the clockwork man.
